I will address this as if it is a serious question.

Yes, people buy this much soda and drink it before its Best By Date. It has a long shelf life.
It is still good past that but the carbonation decreases over long periods.

With the lack of decent prices since inflation set in, I suggest people stock up during sales like this. They are not happening weekly in my area.

By the way, nobody is selling single 12-packs @ $4 (of name-brand soda).

Buying 12-Packs offers much more varieties than cases of 24 as well. So mix it up.

Typical soda deals now require 2 or more x 12-packs or a case or more of 24-packs. I hope this helps to explain the current trends.

If you are worried about the calories/sugar factor or the terrible artificial sweeteners, this deal may not be for you.
The way to get prices back down is to stop buying this price gauged product. Force them to sell it at a decent price. Vote with your wallet.
I doubt we will see 4 x 12-Packs for $10 again. That was about the best deal for a few years now and then.
Costs are up so they pass it along to us. If you want it, you buy it. If you are slick, you wait for a slick price (compared to current trends). This is the a good price right now. Either pass or stock up. If that sticks in your craw, feel free to boycott it. I won't cut off my nose to spite my face. There is also a thread with a better price but less selection at Dollar General if that interests you. Or you can start your uprising there as well. Limit 3 for that deal.
So you'll save a dollar on 3. Requires registering and using their $2 off digital coupon stacked with the in-store deal of 3 for $13.

This Kroger deal can be repeated all week as it needs no coupons.

I have been avoiding some "deals" posted on snacks based on inflation, but only things I won't miss much. I will not pay 50% or more than I used to for some things. But I don't expect to influence inflation by passing.
I won't pay the regular price for soda, and have gone without for long spells when no sales come up. So I stock up when a good sale hits.

Not at the amount they've increased the price, they're not. A few cents or maybe even a quarter I could believe, but when it's 1.5-2x (or more) what the usual prices used to be they can stick it. Their profits are through the roof and we're collectively dumb enough to fall for it.

Exactly. Why would they drop the price if people keep paying?

Same deal available at Harris Teeter stores in the southeast US. (HT is part of Kroger now) Prices range from $9.99 to 11.49/12 pack for the many different flavors available. They also have 2L diet pepsi for 0.97 w Coupon, limit 10 (1.25 w/o coupon, still pretty good).

I am referring in essence to the inflated SALE prices. Not retail, as I never pay that. Retail is insane and I would skip it before paying $10 for a 12-pack. The inflated sale prices have not increased by the same factor as retail has.

Exactly. It is tied to more unit sales for the company with not much loss on margin. Forces ppl to pick up more product.

That being said, excellent price for a 12 pack. But unfortunately don't have a Kroger nearby.
so obviously then, its pepsico that is making the real profits from the increased pricing. transport and sugar are high, but we both know these prices are here to stay

Sugar price peaked at $0.27/lb up from a low in 2020 of $0.10/lb and is now back on a downward trend, but has been much higher without significant soda price increases. Tap water is less than a penny per gallon. Gas prices are down substantially.

But we both know that costs aren't what's keeping the price high. Over the last 12 months, they made over $50 billion in profits (their highest ever).

Harris Teeter (our Kroger in NC since Kroger left) is also offering Buy 2, get 3 Free. Pepsi is $9.99 and I think Coke is $10.99 - so $20-22 for 5 cases.

I would not stock up on soda unless you plan on storing it in a cool, dry place and consume it within 60 days. Ive owned a store and had buddies who run stores. The single bottles that sit in the fridge for months dont taste right and it's not just the carbonation. In the US, the average "sale" soda price is 3/$14-16 - if you get lucky you can get it for 3/$12 Your cheapest bet is 6 pack 17 oz bottles but those again need to be on sale and come out to be cheaper per ounce than cans at 3/$12 You can sometimes find 24 packs for $5 which means a 12 pack is $2.50 - that's the cheapest deal ive found in the last 2 years on soda. As for artificial sweeteners, most sodas use Sucralose and outside the 1% of people who cant tolerate it (like all food/drinks) - it is actually pretty safe and most people over the age of 30 will die before they see any negative long term side effects lol. It is the sweetener of choice pushed in the UK/Mexico/Europe/Middle East/schools in America. Ace-K and Stevia taste and feel (after drinking) like poison plain and simple. So that should at least ease some worries about sweeteners. For those worried about getting diabetes or getting fat from soda, you are living your life wrong. I am mostly sedentary, work out sparsely, drink and eat snacks when i want, but my main meals are calculated out in terms of macros/calories so I can just grab a regular sugar soda and drink it without giving a crap about losing the six pack. People who complain about high sugar in soda are the ones sitting on their asses, not watching what goes inside their mouth, and having a regular daily diet that throws their insulin out of whack so when you pour high fructose corn syrup on that fire you get obesity and diabetes and soda to blame. Or they are degenerates drinking soda like tap water, either way 3/$12 or death lol
Bottles and cans are very different. Bottles will definitely go bad before the date printed on them. Cans? I've had some months after the expiration date (which is often almost a year out on the cans) and they've been fine. The only thing you have to watch out for on cans is the diet/zero sugar cans... one of the sweeteners (can't remember which one) will actually start "eating" away at the can after some time and it will have a pretty foul flavor. Zero sugar ones often have a much shorter expiration date. I mostly drink zero sugar drinks, so I try to drink them by the expiration date, but when I buy regular ones, they're fine for a long, long time.

"they made over $50 billion in profits"

who is "they" in your sentence.

my father, who would be 90 years old if alive used to yell to the heavens when i was a kid, something along the lines of "when sugar goes up, coke goes up. when sugar goes down, coke stays up". true [dumb] story.

It's NOT "price-gouged." It's government spending and money printing caused inflation. Thanks JB.

Bottles and zero might go bad but they beat cans which have a metallic taste (preferred by Pepsi drinkers bc Pepsi is so sweet), 5 oz less than bottles which is nearly a small can in volume so not an insignificant amount, and the bottle is about the cleanest taste you can get to a glass bottle
There's a reason in terms of cost it's glass bottles > plastic bottles > cans > bags from KFC
