They really are the same CPU operating at different base frequencies with the i7 having to draw more power to hit and sustain it's higher boost clock.

Passmark registers them as having just a 2% difference in performance so give me that extra battery life all day

I've had quite the opposite experience, actually. Once I got my first surface back in 2015, I couldn't go back to a regular laptop. Plenty fast, too!

Your surface is slow probably because you cheaped out on the processor and you download a bunch of bloatware.

I've owned both the i5 and i7 versions of the SP9 and the i7 wasn't any faster than the i5. As a matter of fact, the i5 got better battery life. Anyway, WOOT has the i5 version back in stock for $719.99, and they are much easier to deal with than BuyDig.

Woot just had the i5 version last week, but they cancelled my order a week after I placed it because it went out of stock. Grabbed this instead.

Not a bad deal, however you will likely need to spend another $100+ for the keyboard.

Better then woot deal since this is an i7. Also half the woot orders got canceled. Woot kinda sucks now. My order just never shipped so I canceled it.

Still need to spend $100+ on the keyboard. Woot has a 1 year warranty versus the 2 year warranty on the original post.

just for info, surface pro is the slowest windows computer. i have surface pro 7 with 16gb. I think even a $500 convertible 2in1 laptop is better.

Wow, it's 2024 and they're still doing 256GB on an i7? There oughtta be legislation against this. It's almost like Microsoft was trying to make sure their OneDrive business survives by pulling these kinds of practices.

But the one-year warranty is directly from Microsoft which is much better. Plus, the Microsoft refurbs are basically brand-new units.

I hate this surface. It is slower than my Dell 7420. It gets so hot .
