It's been a while since the last holiday season.

The release of College Football 25 has driven up console sales in July and Aug. Its inclusion on Game Pass is speculated to have increased sales of the xbox s. PS5 went up about 25% YOY, xbox x/s is up 48% YOY.

For that matter, it is normal for college kids moving into their dorms to drive up sales in a lot of home goods, laptops, and inexpensive / low end electronics related to entertainment, etc. Generally the parents are not willing to splurge and the kids want their stuff when they move in or shortly after and can't / won't wait until the next sale are depleting the used market

I ONLY play Fortnite. No other video games, just Fortnite. And I play it on my Xbox one X that I got foe free from a neighbor who was moving. It did not come with a controller. A week and a half later, I was at a goodwill and thankfully came across a one x controller but there was no price tag on it so I slipped it into my pocket and walked out. (They refuse to sell things to you without the price tag, it would have been a while thing) It did not have a battery cover so I had to order 4 of them from Amazon for 4.99. So my Xbox one x for Fortnite costed me 4.99.
Just because it didn't have a price tag doesn't make it okay to steal.

Also, what does your comment have to do with anything here?

Same here. I have one from a verizon deal but I'm debating for some reason.

I sold mine for $150 ish cash early this year and still don't regret it. I wanted and missed the disc drive. Been waiting forBRANDNEW $300 Series X deal to happen but nothing had come up since holiday 2023.

Series S is a very good game pass machine for the $$$ for non pc gamers
I think staples had the series x for $300 a few months ago.
It was a rare deal but there is hope

It's a good trade value, but if you are looking to upgrade to the Series X with this deal...I think it's lukewarm.

So you trade in for $250, great.

But you are still spending another $250+ out of pocket to get the Series X.

If the Series X still wasn't $500, I might do it. Or if you sit on the Store-Credit till BF or Xmas you can probably get a good deal on the X.

Do these credits stay forever? Or is there an expiry date?

I know GameStop rejects unopened games, maybe they would do the same for a console too?

It does seems a bit odd that they are giving so much, although it is credit. Maybe they figure some will lose the credit or forget to spend it.

Anyway, was considering trading a new console and just swapping in an old controller. The fine print does make me a bit nervous. I'd hate to open a sealed console, only to be rejected for some reason. I can't imagine that this offer will last long.

Xbox series s was a mistake for Microsoft.
It's held back current gen game development more than anything, but so has the switch.

Now I wish I would have gotten two from the FP Verizon deal! I got a free Xbox X from another FP Verizon deal, but not sure if I want to part with the S.. Scratchchin

What's everyone spending the credit on?
Technically it could be a 40$ down payment on the PS5 Pro that's rumored to be announced next month lol

This is my plan. Get the credit now and wait for a deal on the Series X later. I want a disc drive.

Yes and no. Its been the best MS selling console of the generation and they have struggled mightily selling consoles. On the other hand, I think the S has also hurt the sales of the X and made game development longer and releases further out. A dev/publisher recently said something to the extent of wishing the S didn't exist and I suspect that viewpoint is probably shared quite a bit across the industry. I think it has held back 3rd party releases which is evidenced currently with Black Myth Wukong. While the S has been a negative in several ways, I think MS would be even worse off in this generation (and the next) without the S because MS would basically be not selling any consoles at that point. MS consoles sell best here in the US and even with that, Sony and Nintendo are both selling multiples for every console MS shakes off.

Not a dev but I am waiting for a cheap S to put in dev mode for emulation.
They were as low as $138 during the holidays last year. Honestly I should have bought one just for the same reason haha. I upgraded from the One X to the Series X instead, and it was a pretty awesome upgrade...load times are so much better.
