It's been a while since the last holiday season.

The release of College Football 25 has driven up console sales in July and Aug. Its inclusion on Game Pass is speculated to have increased sales of the xbox s. PS5 went up about 25% YOY, xbox x/s is up 48% YOY.

For that matter, it is normal for college kids moving into their dorms to drive up sales in a lot of home goods, laptops, and inexpensive / low end electronics related to entertainment, etc. Generally the parents are not willing to splurge and the kids want their stuff when they move in or shortly after and can't / won't wait until the next sale are depleting the used market

Yes and no. Its been the best MS selling console of the generation and they have struggled mightily selling consoles. On the other hand, I think the S has also hurt the sales of the X and made game development longer and releases further out. A dev/publisher recently said something to the extent of wishing the S didn't exist and I suspect that viewpoint is probably shared quite a bit across the industry. I think it has held back 3rd party releases which is evidenced currently with Black Myth Wukong. While the S has been a negative in several ways, I think MS would be even worse off in this generation (and the next) without the S because MS would basically be not selling any consoles at that point. MS consoles sell best here in the US and even with that, Sony and Nintendo are both selling multiples for every console MS shakes off.
Part of the reason the S sold well was the unavailability of the X for the first 1-2 years. I got the S only because I couldn't get an X at launch, and I suspect many people are in the same situation.

TY OP!

Mine has been collecting dust for over a year.

What are the chances I could trade in an Xbox One controller with the console instead of the one that came with it?
I doubt they're checking the controllers that hard, so go for it.

Tempted to trade this and upgrade to X since the Holiday deals are coming… but does game stop usually have good series X deals?
Never mind edit I was confused.

Series x for $180??
I see $446 pre owned

Edit:
I think you are confused with the Xbox one x which is $180
Aye, I was wondering why it was such a good deal too good to be true of course.

Welp I've already committed, upgrading to a series X just avoiding selling on eBay/FB market place, and paying sellers fees. Going to end up paying what I could have paid any time thought these last few months by selling my S on eBay and getting an X also on eBay ~$200 😂

Great deal for trade in. If you use gamepass and only care about single player, the amazon fire stick option is viable option for the S

They make money on the items they're "selling" back to you using the "store credit". They're not giving you cash......unless you will accept $173. They're trading you for marked up items knowing you are likely to buy other stuff, as well. 🤓

Last year tou could buy a new series s for $200 for like 2-3 months. If they still had that, retail arbitrage 😈.You would get like $30 free store credit.

It's literally the best deal in the video game industry, especially if you buy the pass from cdkeys for gameflip

Now I wish I would have gotten two from the FP Verizon deal! I got a free Xbox X from another FP Verizon deal, but not sure if I want to part with the S.. ScratchchinWhat's everyone spending the credit on?
That deal is the most financially responsible thing I've done on Slickdeals, especially if I do this trade in 😆

I have a broken HDMI series s. They gave me $150 stor credit. I got it for $140 from Walmart on sale last year. $150 is good enough for me. I'll hold on to it until holiday sales start… maybe some Christmas gifts.

What's the best route to take? Take store credit or cash trade in? IDK what to spend store credit on.

Might do this to put money aside for the new PS5 Pro.

Success! Just finished the trade. Super nice guy working there. He just asked if I had it wiped it and made sure all the cables were included. I was originally given $145 for the trade on the screen, but I told him it should be $247 something. Anyway, he had the wrong SKU inputted. So check that when you go.

Anyway, he took it and didn't even need to test it. It was brand new anyway. I didn't bring the box or anything, just the console, controller, power cord, and HDMI cable. I got the ffull $247.50 credit on a card. YMMV.
