If you really want a powerhouse gaming laptop I'd say bite now and enjoy this thing rather than waste time/focus waiting for a sale that maybe gets you an extra ~$100 off. Tough to say how much better this price might improve by Black Friday (if at all). Nvidia's silicon is the biggest component cost by far in these high-end laptops and the company has an iron grip on pricing and what the market can charge.
As a comparison, 9 months ago, I jumped on refurb version of this deal (the screen might have been different?) after missing out on the 4090 version. I wrote a possibly useful essay with links in the 4090 thread -

We won't see new rtx mobile chips for probably another 8-9 months minimum, maybe a year. Neither Intel nor AMD are expected to top the mobile 4080 (aka desktop 4070-ish Super performance) within that time. Expect this laptop to be GREAT for 3 years minimum, and probably still pretty darn good 4-5 years from now if you relax your in-game quality. A 1440p native rez would probably help a little over the long term to keep 1-5% fps lows higher, but for my tastes I'd gladly take 1600p for non-gaming usage.
The biggest negatives would be on a user-by-user basis, and imo would be:
- no OLED screen. This is huge for HDR gaming imo. When not on the go, using this at home connected to an external monitor would provide the best experience. I have an OLED Steam Deck, Switch, and big TV. My pricey non-OLED 34" Predator widescreen monitor hasn't been used for gaming since 2022.
- do you prefer Intel or AMD cpus for non-gaming uses? For gaming only, it makes almost no difference here.
- the 2TB of ssd storage are on TWO drives. Personally, I wish this thing had just the OS drive and a further ~$50-100 discount, or else one 2TB drive for the OS so I could slap a 4TB drive into the second slot. Probably NBD to most people though.
(Edited) Last thing. Be aware of battery swelling. If a few years from now you notice any signs of the chassis bulging/flexing, check the battery's condition and shape to prevent it from mangling your laptop. Replacements are usually ~$100-200. If you're gonna pay $$$ for a laptop, make it last! Link below, and plenty more info all over the web -

I have laptop from 2012/2013 (battery life has degraded), MSI gaming laptop from 2017/2018, Nintendo Switch from 2017 and a Legion 5i from Dec 2021. None of them have any swelling.

You may not have experienced it, but swell is fairly common. A simple web search brings back plenty of confirmation of the issue. This link might be most relevant since you seem to be unfamiliar -

In my circle of friends, myself and a couple others have experienced battery swell. Most likely because we primarily use our Li-ion gaming laptops plugged in to AC power. Both at home and when traveling for work (which I do often), my Alienware laptop was a huge source of entertainment till the ancient gtx 1660 ti couldn't keep up with modern games.
Last year I had purchased this same 4080 Legion laptop when the next day the Steam Deck OLED was announced. I dabbled with the laptop after it arrived and it is VERY well built, but I returned it since the Deck is awesome and less than half the price. My prior experience with battery swell and my own use case definitely factored into my decision.
