This is compatible with home assistant (different from Google's Assistant). Preferred by pro-installers

I've been waiting for this sale. Keep in mind you might get a rebate for smart thermostats from your local utility company, in Texas they come as a $50 coupon only good at select stores like Home Depot. This offer is just as good though. I have this thermostat upstairs and have been waiting to get another downstairs.

Does anyone install this with a geothermal system? Is it easy or hard?
I have the older version Ecobee on my geo thermal. Had trouble with it kicking off and going to aux fan after long run times. Seems to be fixed now after a few calls to the HVAC guy

What's the general consensus on DIY installing a smart thermostat while you're renting and taking it with you when you go? Bad idea?
I don't see a problem as long as you have access to your apartment's breaker box, you'll want to turn off your AC at the breaker during installation

Can this ecobee handles duo zone AC/heater? Or I need to get two of this?

I use ecobee in the google eco system, and its totally flawless after 2 years. Funny enough, google home app is a little more comfortable to use to control this. Go figure. I would not worry about ecosystem issues here

I probably wouldnt, but if i was renting for many years, then I would do it. Time dependent for me

If if you live in southern Nevada, you can get this for free from the power company (NV energy). They do get to tweak the temperature up and down remotely during high grid usage, but they come install it for you and you can save 200 bucks.
I had a previous version that stopped working and this is what they installed in its place a few weeks ago. Old one used a zigbee box, this one is on the Wi-Fi directly.

One nice feature it has is it can come on automatically for five, 10, 15, etc. minutes per hour just to stir up the air in your home even when the temperature is fine. This can be very helpful for rooms on one side of the house that may get hotter than the other, where the thermostat is. With my old thermostat, I had to keep the fan set to on all the time.

FYI this comes with an adapter that has to be installed in your AC unit if you don't have the necessary wiring. Every pro I've spoken to doesn't recommend installing these kinds of adapters because they're known to be faulty.
I spoke to my HVAC guy who has done work for my family for 20+ years and he never mentioned anything about that. Anything you can link to online that says that is true or is it just anecdotal?

Thoughts on this vs the Honeywell T6 Pro z-wave thermostat? I used the ecobee at my last place and it was great. My new place has the t6 which definitely works but I feel like sometimes it's too aggressive maybe due to lack of sensors.

This one is hands down much better than Nest because of its independent sensor and UI.
One potential downside: if you have no blue wire with your HVAC, installation may be tricky but not impossible. Most houses 1996 and newer should not have the problem.
How does it compare to the original ecobee? Mine is still running fine, not motivated to replace it. Besides I bought 7,8 of the sensors for the old ecobee, does the new ecobee only uses the new sensor? Those aren't cheap, I remember $50 each when I bought it.

Whenever I fry steak or something, I'd turn on the "fan" for 2 hours to blow the smell out of the house. By default the "fan" is schedule to turn on 5-10 minutes per hour to keep the air flowing.

I have a nest and I wouldn't buy it again.
I have 3 nests at 3 different properties and an Ecobee at another. I prefer the ecobee for sure. Easier to use and the web interface is pretty nice including data such as runtime graphs. The next "smart thermostat" is one of the dumbest pieces of tech in history.

You would think that it would be able to detect obvious system issues. Like if compressor has been running for 12 hours and temperature hasn't dropped at all, then something is wrong and send an alert to my phone or put an error on the thermostat. But it doesn't, it thinks all is good. Confused

Actually, mine is tied to my heating system and when my system had issues last year it would send my phone an alert that it has been calling for heat for two hours with no change and to check my system. Rock solid. Im a big fan of ecobee now

lol please. You're doing it wrong. Anyone that has this should be using voice controls. Alexa. Siri. Whatever android users have. I haven't touched mine physically since I installed it.
