I have to disagree with you there. I have 64 devices connected to four LN1301s in a router + mesh network and performance has been decent and stable for nearly a week now. I have 16 IP cameras streaming 1080p video 24/7 as well. (Half of them via Ethernet bridging with the mesh nodes)

Mind you that I only have 100Mbps Spectrum internet but I do stream/direct play 4k videos from a Plex media server to several Amazon Firestick 4k devices without issue. Overall IMO you would be hard pressed to find such relatively decent hardware for so cheap; especially a Mesh network.

It wasn't all smooth at first mind you. I kept getting disconnects; especially with the streaming IP cameras. But I discovered by disabling Express Forwarding all my streaming issues went away. (CA>Connectivity>Administration>Express Forwarding)

I'm guessing that Cisco's/Linksys' proprietary Express Forwarding routing protocol was causing havoc with the IP cams streaming capabilities. Also, disabling Node Steering seemed to make things more stable as well; mesh nodes no longer disconnect from the router when Node Steering is disabled. (CA>Wi-Fi Settings>Advanced>Node Steering)
User feedback across two years indicates better performance with all three off. Express forwarding seems to negatively affect streaming. Node steering interferws with Google Home and Apple Homekit. Client steering slows connection down if you have more than one router.

Of course, user experience can vary so feel free to experiment. if the routers are giving you problems, try turning these features off and see if it works
Still waiting for mine to ship from the last $15 deal. Just checked and Woot says SEPT 13. Hasn't even shipped yet.

It's not a deal if you never receive it.

My woot order from Aug 26th still hasn't shipped. UPS MyChoice is showing that a label has been created on Sept 4th and is awaiting pickup by UPS. EST delivery is Monday the 9th but I expect it to further delay.

Question still remains! OEM as shipped FW or the updated FW (March 2024) on the Linksys site. Which is better if any? Not planning on a hack until I figure out what its real capabilities are with OEM FW.

Mesh comments can all be right! Depends on what kinds of mesh and its functionality. Adding a node to the parent router is a great option that appears to be working is some capacity.
There is literally only one rev. They took the $500 routers, slapped new stickers on them(some poorly printed like mine), flashed them with the march rev, and shipped them to the clearing house.

Can I use this somehow as an access point with an Asus wifi6 mesh setup? Not saying another node but as an access point that I can connect a NAS to?
Yup. Just switch it to "bridge mode". That disables firewall/dhcp etc and its just an AP with a built in switch.

People planning installing OpenWrt should understand that they are installing alpha build. The Git PR hasn't even been accepted into Snapshot branch of OpenWrt which is already bleeding edge stuff.

Nothing wrong with running development quality code but you should have your expectations set up correctly.

Don't cry if 5GHz stops working with some specific settings or you have random issues like one client walking out of AP range causes 2 second outage for all other Wi-Fi clients. Or IPv6 stops working because of some multicast forwarding bugs. All real issues I have encountered with Dynalink DL-WRX36 (also running same generation of Qualcomm SoC). I ended up fixing the issues myself and building a custom firmware.

That being said, of course I bought this and of course I will be running OpenWrt and will help fix the issues if I encounter them.
Thanks for the headsup. FWIW, the stock firmware is absolutely flawless so far. i have ordered two units with mesh setup in mind but one arrived earlier and one later. to my surprise the single unit is performing phenomenal and i am even thinking if mesh is required for my 1200 sqft. But your requirements and setup might demand something different. I had asus mini XD4 before this and though it was stable, i see the ping times on nodes being much higher because fo the Mesh setup utilizing existing dual band. if you are not looking for something fancy, the stock firmware will serve you well.

Got mine delivered today!
Finally got the email that it shipped. Oddly, the tracking shows it comes from a warehouse right in my city so I get it in one day. Just took them a long time to actually ship it.

Oh wow thanks for this! My house has coax in every single room but not a single ethernet cable. So this basically converts coax to Ethernet to allow for WiFi extenders? Can this also allow a mesh system to be wired instead of wireless?
FWIW you can get new 2-packs of MoCA 2.5 adapters on ebay for ~$60. Frontier FCA252.

If you're wanting your iPhone 13 Pro Max to go faster, good luck. I've also got a 13 Pro Max and that's about as fast as I ever get on WIFI. If I upgrade to iPhone 16 PM this year, should be able to do better.

Does anyone know if it's possible to flash from stock to openwrt, using only a usb drive? Or do I have to start a serial connection for that?
Thanks

USB is disabled with stock firmware. You don't need serial to flash, you can SSH into it and network copy the files to the device.
