I have to disagree with you there. I have 64 devices connected to four LN1301s in a router + mesh network and performance has been decent and stable for nearly a week now. I have 16 IP cameras streaming 1080p video 24/7 as well. (Half of them via Ethernet bridging with the mesh nodes)

Mind you that I only have 100Mbps Spectrum internet but I do stream/direct play 4k videos from a Plex media server to several Amazon Firestick 4k devices without issue. Overall IMO you would be hard pressed to find such relatively decent hardware for so cheap; especially a Mesh network.

It wasn't all smooth at first mind you. I kept getting disconnects; especially with the streaming IP cameras. But I discovered by disabling Express Forwarding all my streaming issues went away. (CA>Connectivity>Administration>Express Forwarding)

I'm guessing that Cisco's/Linksys' proprietary Express Forwarding routing protocol was causing havoc with the IP cams streaming capabilities. Also, disabling Node Steering seemed to make things more stable as well; mesh nodes no longer disconnect from the router when Node Steering is disabled. (CA>Wi-Fi Settings>Advanced>Node Steering)
User feedback across two years indicates better performance with all three off. Express forwarding seems to negatively affect streaming. Node steering interferws with Google Home and Apple Homekit. Client steering slows connection down if you have more than one router.

Of course, user experience can vary so feel free to experiment. if the routers are giving you problems, try turning these features off and see if it works
Still waiting for mine to ship from the last $15 deal. Just checked and Woot says SEPT 13. Hasn't even shipped yet.

It's not a deal if you never receive it.

I know you like a good deal Smilie, I think this is a fantastic deal especially if you like to tinker (official OpenWRT and DD-WRT support for this device should not be too far away).
Yep, that's exactly my reasoning. I really don't need this, but I wouldn't mind playing around with those and for $20, I won't be too upset if it sits on a shelf for a while before I get around to it. I actually signed up for a 30-day Prime trial that was offered on my account last week, so I'm scoping some deals that I'd probably normally pass over if not for the free shipping.

I'm debating if I should keep or return for a (better) mesh system, to those that have returned things to woot back, how's the process been?
You have to pay return shipping which makes it not worth it to return.

When I switch to bridge mode to use as AP, two issues arise:
1) the LED is constantly blinking red
2) I have to connect my old router to this device's LAN. If I connect to WAN, the wifi crashes immediately and I can't connect to internet even via ethernet

Does anyone see the same issue?
2 posts above yours describes how to set an AP. Did you change the IP address before you set the bridge mode? If not, you may have an IP conflict with the linksys address and another address on your network.

I set my unit as an AP. Everything seems to work except the top light remains solid magenta/purple. according to hte description, it is ready to set up, but it already set up. What is it waiting for?

How does the mesh work like? It is stable, or needs frequent resetting.
For me two have been working great without any noticed drops or anything. Speed on WiFi testing usually over 300mps up and down. Worst it goes with 2 nodes in dead spot is 140.

Everything anyone says about WiFi is YMMV as HVAC ductwork brick walls plaster etc will affect it all.

When I used only one of these it was not better speed and distance coverage than my 1 TPlink Archer 21 router. That router covered everything in my small 2 story wood house fine. Only my yard patio has speed in low 14-8mps not that I noticed unless I tested.

2 nodes can help with dead spots in your house if you happen to have a good spot to place it. Use WiFiMan to compare and then keep moving the 2nd WiFi not to find it he best compromise spot.

I happen to have wired behind my main TV so can place main parent node/router there. Roku is wired few other things for TV there. Then wired back to my office where printer desktop etc. I only have minimal stuff on WiFi. My sec cameras NVR are POE wired. So my situation isn't like most.

I have zero need for mesh but at this price bought to play with and maybe confirm not junk and give to brother with crap WiFi. The 3rd one I got only because was $15 and I can eventually play with alternate firmware as it's been a decade since I used

I did that, but i can't login into the router admin because the password and serial aren't accepted

I was under the impression that serial access would bypass security. Try asking on openwrt forum… the password although not very long may still be hard to brute force. Connect the wan port then try accessing with Linksys account as it may be able to add it but not sure

I went out shopping for groceries. Anyway, just got back to my desk to run some tests on the "Auto" and you are right, it is in 80Mhz channel width now.
How do you test to see whether it's running on channel width at 80 MHz or 40 or 20? What tool do you use to see it?

I've had mine for a couple days and it replaced an old Asus RT AC68U, so far on stock it seems better and I'm getting better speeds from the gigabyte that I pay for via Ethernet.

No complaints for $15 and an upgrade. I do wonder if the real play is throwing DD WRT or open wrt on it but I'm not sure if that'll actually improve anything.

Tldr: if you have a really old router and want something newer this is a great buy.

The only issue I had with Bridge mode was discovering that you needed to set a static IP for the LN1301 before connecting it to another router as once Bridge Mode is activated the IP address cannot be changed.
Well, you can ALWAYS assign a static IP after adding a mesh node to the parent as that's what I did on my Linksys MR9000. You add a node and it puts the device into Bridge mode. Then, go to DHCP reservation on the parent and assign a static IP to the node.

FWIW, I have Express Forwarding and Node Steering enabled and don't have any issues with the smart plugs plus about 30 devices on the network on my Linksys MR9000. I expect a better performance from LN1301 as it has 2 GB RAM and a quad core processor where as MR9000 has ONLY 512 MB RAM.

Mine was purple when I had it connected in bridge mode to my network via its LAN port. I connected it via the WAN port and rebooted it, it then turned blue after booting. For what it's worth, before plugging it in I had already assigned it a persistent DHCP IP on my main router.

I wouldn't be surprised if your Netgear has better range than the Linksys when compared one-to-one, but with a mesh I would expect to see an improvement with the Linksys. And while putting the child node in the upstairs bedroom would give you a stronger signal there, the child node would also be further from the parent node. If it were me, I would start by placing the child node on the main floor and test your speed in various parts of your home.
I appreciate the reply and I get what your saying about putting the child node on the main level. So just to confirm I would place the main router in my basement where my netgear resides now and the child node on the main floor would be on just wifi only correct? The child node doesn't need to be hooked up via ethernet correct? I've only ever used a single router before so I want to make sure I have this correct.

Also someone mentioned you have to pay return shipping to return this to Woot? I have Amazon Prime but I would like to able to return them free should they not work out. I guess I'll have to look into that a little further.

USB doesn't work with stock but works with OpenWRT and DDWRT.

Yes, mesh works with stock + OpenWRT.

Thank you for the quick response. If i have to do mesh setup, i assume i have to flash master and child nodes seperately with openwrt files, correct ?
