I have to disagree with you there. I have 64 devices connected to four LN1301s in a router + mesh network and performance has been decent and stable for nearly a week now. I have 16 IP cameras streaming 1080p video 24/7 as well. (Half of them via Ethernet bridging with the mesh nodes)

Mind you that I only have 100Mbps Spectrum internet but I do stream/direct play 4k videos from a Plex media server to several Amazon Firestick 4k devices without issue. Overall IMO you would be hard pressed to find such relatively decent hardware for so cheap; especially a Mesh network.

It wasn't all smooth at first mind you. I kept getting disconnects; especially with the streaming IP cameras. But I discovered by disabling Express Forwarding all my streaming issues went away. (CA>Connectivity>Administration>Express Forwarding)

I'm guessing that Cisco's/Linksys' proprietary Express Forwarding routing protocol was causing havoc with the IP cams streaming capabilities. Also, disabling Node Steering seemed to make things more stable as well; mesh nodes no longer disconnect from the router when Node Steering is disabled. (CA>Wi-Fi Settings>Advanced>Node Steering)
User feedback across two years indicates better performance with all three off. Express forwarding seems to negatively affect streaming. Node steering interferws with Google Home and Apple Homekit. Client steering slows connection down if you have more than one router.

Of course, user experience can vary so feel free to experiment. if the routers are giving you problems, try turning these features off and see if it works
Still waiting for mine to ship from the last $15 deal. Just checked and Woot says SEPT 13. Hasn't even shipped yet.

It's not a deal if you never receive it.

OpenWRT support for this device is in development an experimental.
The hardware should support 160MHz band width. Doesn't stock firmware support it?
From my understanding, 160mhz will never be supported because the hardware blobs to support 160hmz are closed source. Has nothing to do with developmental status. Was asked in the dev thread for this multiple times.

Let me repeat, I setup the child node and went into the parent (DHCP reservation) and set an IP for the Child using its mac address. I am currently using it like that.
Thank you for your suggestions. I think we are talking past each other because of the misunderstanding in definitions. My definition of child node is a Linksys satellite/child connected to a Linksys main unit acting as either a router or AP. Since I dont have a Linksys satellite, I dont understand. I have a non-linksys router that is connected to a linksys acting as an AP with zero child nodes. I know I can set up in my non-linksys router, a static IP assignment to the linksys AP. The reason I set the static IP first is the steps I use:
1) connect the LAN/ethernet port of the linksys to a isolated computer with the Ip set as 192.168.1.100 with mask as 255.255.255.0
2) power up the linksys, wait for purple light. in a browser, https://192.168.1.1
3) log on to linksys. set the static address to 192.168.0.4 . That forces you to set the DHCP server to 192.168.0.xx . save
4) change the Ip on the isolated computer to 192.168.0.1
5) log on to 192.168.0.4 in the web browser, (without setting a static IP, you cant get to this). disable DHCP. (not really necessary). set bridge mode. connect router LAN to linksys WAN port.
6) set IP static assignment in router for the linksys. verify that everything works, wireless devices connects and can access internet,.
7) light is solid purple still. reboot. still purple. look in diagnostics page, everything is correct.
The only other issue that gives me pause is that when I try to set up the linksys phone app that connects via bluetooth, it cannot find this linksys. So I am going to return it and see if a replacement works,

Follow step one and ignore the 2nd partition stuff. Get Lytr's build here, https://github.com/testuser7/open...ax-2540ea6

Plug mx4300's wan that you just flashed into the lan of your working router to get an internet connection.
Learn to ssh and install luci, it's a quick google search that should give you the answer on openwrt's website.
when I do opkg update and then opkg install luci,
it gives me cannot find dependency kernel error. Maybe we are using a different lytr build?

The dates on the files hasn't changed so I doubt it. Google the error and try the provided solutions assuming you flashed with openwrt-qualcommax-ipq807x-linksys_mx4300-squashfs-factory.bin

These are still showing "Woot" (aka Amazon) as the seller. I'm still waiting for my previous order on Aug 27th to ship. Woot says an estimated delivery of Sept 12th. Amusingly(?), Amazon says that the delivery date if I was to order these would be between the 12th and 16th. Wonder if they are intentionally holding up shipments for this next round of purchases? Or maybe Woot was selling product they were anticipating having in stock by, say, Sept 10th?

How is the wifi signal range on strength on this Linksys LN 1301 compared to your old router? I'm wondering if the range on these is less than some other outers as they don't have external antennae.
I got the range tests numbers.

From 100ft away no clear LOS, through walls and some trees and obstacles, to the farthest corner of my backyard.

This is from 45ft away, no clear LOS, on 2nd floor, lots of obstacles doors, flooring, carpet, etc.

I ordered a couple more, ordered on 26th and 31st. I'm not seeing anything besides 'completed' still. No email indicating shipped or estimated delivery.

Edit: never mind. I checked through woot directly instead of the email link. One ordered August 26th eta 9/11 and one ordered 8/31 eta 9/18.

I ordered from Amazon last night at around 10 PM and it gave me an estimated delivery date of Sept. 10-13. Then I got an email saying it has shipped at 7 PM today. The tracking info doesn't say the package was received by UPS yet, so we'll see if it actually goes out.

Question to those who use mesh mode in stock firmware.. Does the LED of your child router stay on steady blue all the time? Mine appears to be working but the LED alternates between steady blue and steady red randomly. It doesn't matter if the child router is right next to the parent router or 30ft away.. I wonder if this is normal.

In the 5 or more times I tried I did actually reset each node exactly the way you described. I've also tried doing exactly this with the default settings so idk. When I click "Add wired node" and "Add wireless node" I have NEVER seen the LED flash purple. Maybe it's defective. Literally have tried this carefully each time to make sure I'm not the defective part of this equation..

Edit: The only thing I haven't tried is swapping the child to be the parent. That will be the next thing I try. Thanks for the idea.
You need to wait for a few minutes for the node to be added. After you click both add wired and add wireless node, it will take a few seconds for those buttons to reactivate. When one of those buttons reactivate, click on "done adding node" and then click "apply". Take a coffee break and come back to see if it worked. It took me 3-5 minutes for one of the nodes to get added.

I got my second MX4300 today and set it up in a wireless mesh mode using the instructions I posted before and it was a breeze. It took me a grand total of less than 5 minutes for the whole setup and not sure why some are having issues with it.

Now, I moved the node to a different location and get almost full 500 Mbps upload/download speed on my fiber link.

It's a steal at $15 or even $20 and ordered the 3rd one from amazon now. It's one heck of a mesh setup and considering $50 for 3 is just what fire sale is all about. Smilie
