I have to disagree with you there. I have 64 devices connected to four LN1301s in a router + mesh network and performance has been decent and stable for nearly a week now. I have 16 IP cameras streaming 1080p video 24/7 as well. (Half of them via Ethernet bridging with the mesh nodes)

Mind you that I only have 100Mbps Spectrum internet but I do stream/direct play 4k videos from a Plex media server to several Amazon Firestick 4k devices without issue. Overall IMO you would be hard pressed to find such relatively decent hardware for so cheap; especially a Mesh network.

It wasn't all smooth at first mind you. I kept getting disconnects; especially with the streaming IP cameras. But I discovered by disabling Express Forwarding all my streaming issues went away. (CA>Connectivity>Administration>Express Forwarding)

I'm guessing that Cisco's/Linksys' proprietary Express Forwarding routing protocol was causing havoc with the IP cams streaming capabilities. Also, disabling Node Steering seemed to make things more stable as well; mesh nodes no longer disconnect from the router when Node Steering is disabled. (CA>Wi-Fi Settings>Advanced>Node Steering)

User feedback across two years indicates better performance with all three off. Express forwarding seems to negatively affect streaming. Node steering interferws with Google Home and Apple Homekit. Client steering slows connection down if you have more than one router.

Of course, user experience can vary so feel free to experiment. if the routers are giving you problems, try turning these features off and see if it works

Still waiting for mine to ship from the last $15 deal. Just checked and Woot says SEPT 13. Hasn't even shipped yet.

It's not a deal if you never receive it.

Would these work well for a one camera local setup? No internet, just a WiFi camera connected to display on a couple of old tablets for my folks. The current router disconnects too often

Anyone know of this (3 meshed together) would be an upgrade over the 3-pack Eero J010311? Spec for spec it sounds like it is, but I really like the Eero app, so I'm a little hesitant to switch.

The current firmware on the router is not that great. The wiki is listing the other options such as open-sourced software such as ddwrt or openwrt. Both are great options but would require one to perform steps to 'flash' or reprogram this router. There are steps available to do this but would require some steps to re-configure the router to your liking. If you want a router where the firmware has reached end of life (no longer supported) then this would be a purchase for you. This router has a ton of great specs but would needs different software to fully take advantage. e.g. USB port

To be clear, in order to make a Linksys mesh, one of the Linksys router has to be main router, correct? That will kill the existing Asus AiMesh for sure.
Is it possible to connect one Linksys router to Asus router as AP, and use other Linksys routers as Linksys mesh?
I believe you can setup a mesh with these then make the Main an AP. So you could still have the Asus as your router (without its wifi enabled) with the Linksys units doing the wifi.

I went through same questions myself, never got answers from anyone. I was comparing Eero Pro 6 to these.

Ultimately I came to the conclusion that these are better hardware, but the fact they are end of life products that will never receive updates makes them a bit more of a security risk, and it seems the firmware is such an afterthought that many features don't work well like the three things people mentioned to turn off. You will also get zero support, where as Eero support is fantastic.

So I got these as tinker toys, and also to upgrade friends and family who have embarrassingly old equipment like from 10+ years ago etc. Eero while the hardware is not as fancy is much better piece of mind, and better performance practically speaking if you don't want to find tune these or flash them to the still very alpha versions of the open router software like DD-WRT and OpenWRT, the latter not even officially supporting the router's full speed.

This is the perfect gift/upgrade for your 70 year old relative/neighbor/etc that will never update their router anyways.

These do mesh with other Velop AX/Wifi6 devices, but cross-protocol mesh of AC AX is not going to be a thing that works.
Interesting, the product page says no meshing capability so was just wondering. I understanding the AC/AX part. However, as long as it can do AC to AC I would be happy. I have two Velop and it does the job but i would love to add 3rd one to the mesh network at this price.

Just got my second one, so I was finally able to set it up.

Flawless. Mesh works perfectly. Disabled node steering, client steering, and express forwarding. will stay stock until Openwrt is official and fully stable (which is probably only a few weeks away based on progress)

Now wondering, should I buy a third?? Or is that overkill for 1200sq ft one story brick house?
are there any advantages to meshimg 2 of these versus just using one as a standard router other than ensuring coverage in a large or multi-story house?
ie if 1 router already provides coverage throughout a house is there any advantage to a mesh setup?

Exact same boat. Had the t-mobile AC1900 rebadges for several years that this'll be replacing. Curious how this performs, have a feeling i'll miss the merlin firmware, but we'll see.
I Just did exactly that. Well AC86U main and the TM1900 was the aiMesh node. Now running two LN1301s with hardwired backhaul. I'm still getting used to dd-wrt again coming back from merlin, but its doing everything I need. Running my PIA VPN client, source routing only the necessary hosts. WiFi speeds are crazy fast, though my devices are the limiting factor here. VPN throughput is about triple what the AC86U was, and the CPU is is still only at about 65% to 75% usage. Its definitely an upgrade you can feel, if that's what youre wondering.

Let me know what you find out. I plan on replacing my daughter's also with this device. The t-mobile device has been stable for her. I had one stable and one not so stable, so a little hit and miss for them,

Switch the on switch on the bottom of the router. I was initially shocked at first then I remember there was an on switch.

I connected this router to my t-mobile ac1900 via wire, for my 300mbps fios, download speed boosted from 235 to 263 and upload speed boosted from 217 to 343. Testing device is my 5th gen ipad pro. I am very happy with the performance.
