Absolutely terrific book. Scalzi never disappoints, but this one is especially excellent (ffo: soon I will be invincible) (my 13 y/O son tore through this one in 2 days as well!)

Absolutely terrific book. Scalzi never disappoints, but this one is especially excellent (ffo: soon I will be invincible) (my 13 y/O son tore through this one in 2 days as well!)

As others have mentioned, great story, wil Weaton did a great job on the narration. Highly reccomend. For $2 it's a no brainer.

The successors to the original Old Man's War installment were going from mediocre to terrible quickly. Maybe he contracted them out, not sure.

Yeah, some of his earlier stuff was good but over the years it's gotten a little too ideologically preachy and less entertaining. Naturally, like so much other media now, if you fall into the ideological category he's in and love an echo chamber, everything he writes is glorious and awesome and you pump your fist in the air reading it, and if you don't fall into that category, you find a lot of it tiring and obnoxious... particularly because the actual bottom line in my opinion is that the QUALITY of the writing, ideological bent notwithstanding, really just isn't that good anymore.

I don't see a way to purchase this book on the main page - while the sale price of $1.99 is listed, only the Subscribe option is available. Other books, I see the purchase option. This seems to be the sale book where the "Buy" button isn't there. Sign out, see the button. Try to "buy", signs in, but no button.

But if I go to my (empty) cart, Audible's "You might also like" section has the book at $1.99 with the "add to cart" link and works. Weird.

Well, I guess I'm firmly ensconced in his echo chamber because I've enjoyed every book he's ever written. I've read this book. My only complaint is that I finished it way too quickly.

I love his stuff. Read almost everything including this one. I'd say it's not the best writing but perfect for mindless commute. I like that it's lighthearted and not too hard to go through.
