Why are Swatch Watches so loud!?!?! I have 2 other Swatches that sit in a drawer, away from everyone else, because they make such loud ticks!

It's not bad if you're active, but if it's quiet, it gives, "Tell-Tale Heart" vibes.
These are automatic movements, it is not run by batteries. I think he meant the rotor makes loud noises when it spins

Very true, but it's a sale and also can't be replaced for $50, nor can you replace the movement because of the way the watch is sealed (like how with a Vostok it's cheaper to get a new movement for $50 instead of servicing an old one). So people should just know that unlike most watches, this one is both a little one and done and a little luck of the draw.

According to systéma 51, these don't need to be ever serviced. I own 2 of this and they are 100 percent made in Switzerland. ETA owns Swatch. They are a free spirited version of usually traditional Swiss watchmaking. For the money, it is a steal.

Replace, "don't need to be ever serviced" with "can never be serviced." The movement uses rivets and glue, rather than screws, so it is essentially unserviceable.

It will fail, all movements need service eventually, and in some cases quite a bit early than expected.

For a $35+shipping watch, that's semi-acceptable, so this particular deal I can accept. But definitely not at the prices Swatch generally asks for, for watches with this movement.

It's a neat idea, but poorly implemented. Especially when you realize there are tons of Seiko and Miyota automatic watches hovering around this price point, which are 100% serviceable.

Got this and the online ceramics G-Shock ($49) to reduce shipping. Couple of X-Mas gifts sorted. all the $1 and $5 strap deals seem dead.

Sure they do. Smartwatches didn't kill off mechanical watches, even if they did make them pretty obsolete in practice.

I actually went from wearing a random Seiko growing up, to an Apple Watch, to an Apple Watch, to an... do I really want to keep buying a new Apple Watch every few years? I switched to mechanicals, and like them much more. My wrist no longer buzzes when I get a text message, but the fit, finish, and style are all immensely better.

This is a good deal, but just be aware that as of August 1st, 2024, all sales at Hodinkee are final. That means no returns, refunds or exchanges. I found this out when I attempted to cancel an order recently, which they wouldn't let me do.

I grabbed one, and agree that it certainly doesn't sound like a forever watch. I also like funky pop-style watches so this works great for me.

I think I had my last automatic watch serviced over a decade ago, I found some guy that did it out of his home for crazy low rates, IIRC it was $75. I think it probably costs $200 easy these days. On a $35 watch... its disposable.

If this is an everyday wear, get a Casio G-Shock if you are a cheapskate. Best watch ever made, same price as this, keeps better time. Can't break it, just needs a new battery every 5-10 years.
