Bought these last year, 2 for $25. Been using them for stripers on lake Lanier and salt water fishing in the Florida Gulf water. I don't feel bad when I abuse them because of the pricing. I really like the reels, very smooth, and drag works very well. Caught plenty of 10+ lbers on the 6'6" and 7'0" spinners. I don't need anymore right now, but if the price ever gets down to 2 for $25 or 2 for $30 I'll buy a few more. Just my 2c from a recreational fisherman.

The Daiwa Samurai is probably the best full size budget beginner's rod on the market. For little kids, get a Dock Demon (or the Spiderma/Barbie ones). For a small rod for an older kid or adult, the Ugly Stik Dock Runners are super fun.

The original Samurais I bought my brothers were fiberglass. That's not a bad thing at all. The more moderate action is preferrable for crankbaits, and fiberglass is far more forgiving than high modulus graphite for a beginner. The best catfish rods in the world are usually fiberglass too.

I bought this combo about 3 and 4 years ago and still use them. Don't use them often, but they still work fine.

It's a $20 combo, "meh" is sort of to be expected. I bought when they were 2/$30 and for the price point they are fine as backups or kids poles.

I bought the light version for pan fish. Surprisingly, it seems pretty decent. I'm not sure how the other sizes will hold up for big fish though

I have four of these from a Slickdeal probably 8 years ago. The first two were stolen shortly after and I just drove over to Dick's and got four. Wish I did not get medium heavy. Two have been living on my boat moored in salt water. Just rinse them with fresh water and they keep going.

Be prepared to untangle lots of knots/birds nest. Activate dad mode and you'll be alright, just wear the right hat. Fishing can be a lot of fun for everyone and this is a great rod.
