1825+ coming soon, although seems to be minor update. Recommend reading up on recent changes made by Synology… because they are too cheap to spend a few cents per unit on licenses they are dropping h265/hvec support. Ex video station being discontinued, photos thumbnails won't show unless you generate them on your phone/computer first, Surveillance Station won't support third party cameras recording h265 if want to use the Synology's motion detection, etc. Might not affect everyone but if you want to buy this for the software something to consider.

I know many people who would not be able to set up a NAS with something like unRAID (or TrueNAS or whatever else), even following guides. Maybe after tinkering and learning for hours to days to weeks. Then there is the ongoing support. Synology is mostly set and forget. I still have a couple Synology systems but have moved on the unRAID. It's wonderful, but it's not as easy as Synology to use.

None of this has to do with intelligence. It's just experience and interests. I like computers and tinkering with them. My spouse does not and while could learn, has absolutely no desire to. It's just not an interest. Synology is great for her and many others. It's great for a small business that needs something that basically just works.

There are often less expensive, better options if you're willing to put together and support your own systems, but the benefit of a company like Synology's products is you don't have to do that if you don't want to. Most people probably should not put together their own NAS and should go with something like Synology. It'll save a lot of headaches. Synology NAS devices are not the most powerful, the most full-featured, or the least expensive, but they do well what 90+% of people might need.

You get a whole lot of other services and whatnot that would also cost/take a lot of effort to configure you get out of the box with synology. Obviously if you have the time and drive go for it. These are phenomenal out of the box

DS1825+'s existence has been leaked btw. No specs, just a placeholder on the website. I'm waiting to either upgrade to it, or get a cheaper DS1821+ at that time.

I really don't understand the target consumer here. For this price even on sale you can get a pre built pc with hdd bays and buy at least some of the hdds too. And people might say its complicated to setup but for a few hundred in savings I think an hour in setup is warranted no?

Could you provide some examples that you personally use. It't not like I'm completely against them, obviously people without time would benefit slightly, but just trying to understand.

Thanks for sharing these deets!

I have a DS 212 that's still kicking with 2x16TB HDD now but I've been wanting to get a larger one and holding out for the next version.

It's wild that they're dropping h265 support! I'll have to read more about the Photo Station changes too... as a photographer, this would be a nice + for me.

Need help.

How seamless is this as my back for all media for my household.
Iam looking or a backup for all media including videos, photos, music, and such. But the most important is the accessibility or ease of use.

Does it offer auto backup on phones photos and videos for both IOs and Android?

Please serious answer only ty SD family.
