I guess this isn't hot becuase they are not an authorized dealer?
I bought my 5D IV from 6th Avenue a few years back. Had no issues.
The R5 will be sub $2,000 Refurb from Canon USA in the 2024 Black Friday sale.
I have a few more cameras than I need, so I may just wait for the 2025 BF sale, and get this thing Refurb at the "clearance price" at that point. Likely below $1,500 with a free battery grip.
If you need this today, this is not a bad price.

i almost commented its insane to wait 1+ years anticipating a camera price drop but understanding you already have a lot of cameras, that makes sense lol. i cant believe this camera could potentially be under 1500 at some point its so featured packed

Haha, I should not even buy it in a year from now to be honest. But I probably will. Just for kicks, go on eBay and see how much D810s (the best DSLR ever made) are selling for. $600-ish. D610s for $400-ish. 6Ds for $300. And they are terrific cameras to this day. That's technology for you. Since I don't have an immediate need, I only buy the previous model, on clearance. The R5's IQ is actually a little better than the R5 II's. (The R5 has a little more DR as its sensor is not a stacked one.)

Half-truth. I have both camera and have also seen respected technical graphs. DR on both cameras is nearly identical until after ISO 6400 where the R5 is better. But the overall IQ of the R5 II is improved over the R5. Also none of the major photo editing apps have a proper R5 2 RAW profile yet to reduce noise in post.
What makes the R5 II special is its "magnetic" AF on moving objects and ability to focus on subjects in lots near foreground or background clutter - things that throw off the R5's AF. Also pre-shooting in R5 II is just a firmware tweak from A+.
The R5 is still phenomenal but in no way is it better than Mark II.

Very good. I don't think there is much of a DR difference. It appears marginal. And yes, the R5 II is said to have a superior AF system. One would expect that as the R6 II already had a superior AF system to the R5/R6.

Yep. Gray market— no Canon USA warranty. Canon USA has the refurbished R5's at this price often & have full Canon 1yr warranty. Check out Canon Price Watch for alerts.

Adore my 6D and bought it soon after introduced - knowing the focus points would force me to use center spot and the video didn't have continuous auto focus.
I'd had my fill with Nikon and the 6D fit my large hands perfectly.
The images are outstanding, fitted with an L lens. It pains me that it's lost so much value.
Now I want better - the R6 II has the features that I desire, but there's no retailer close to me to put my hands around one. I'll change to the RF lenses (don't want to fiddle with the adapter EF>RF.
I bought an RP just to fool around with and sorely miss the pure viewfinder of a DSLR.
Come on Black Friday and dish up offers we can't refuse

Yes, I still have my two old 6D bodies. They are worth so little by now, no point selling them. They are still great cameras. The center AF point is superb. (The rest is garbage.) That's all I've ever used. Works perfectly fine. IQ is great, except DR, the DR really blows on older Canons compared to Sony, I know because I run both systems, not because I read it in some forum. It's still a fantastic camera if you get around tis limitations.
I may buy an R8 or R6II this Black Friday if I see a deal I cannot resist.
My understanding is that EF lenses are very snappy via the official Canon adapters, and AF works almost as well as with RF lenses, no?

Not sure why you'd be hesitant about EF to RF conversion. The only issues you might see are from third party EF lenses. My Canon EF lenses work great on my R and R7. My 120-300 sport Sigma has some pulsing at close distances, but my 150-600 sport doesn't. I don't plan on buying any RF lenses until my EF equivalents break since they work so well on the RF bodies.

Really appreciate your input
I don't want to separate my favorite 24-105 L from the 6D because it's so ideal of a match and as a backup camera it will continue to be handy.
I realize that I need to buckle down and buy at least an RF 24-105 L and hope to see a sale on the EF>RF adapter.

I went from a 6D to the R myself. The AF upgrade alone was worth the upgrade. You won't believe how much better the AF is on the newer Canon mirrorless even with your EF lenses.
You can easily use your 24-105 with the newer RF bodies. My hit rate skyrocketed. Don't be afraid to adapt EF to RF if you see a RF body you like.

Since you mentioned the R8, I revisited comparisons and found that indeed, the R6 II would be a more appropriate replacement for me.
