not to thread crap, but aren't the typical sale prices lower than these current prices even with the 25% off?

Can someone shed some light on what the difference is between Tapo and Kasa? I have some Kasa plugs that I use at the holidays and a Kasa inside camera that I use on occasion. It looks like I can use the Kasa devices on the Tapo app, but I'm guessing the opposite isn't true? I'd have to install the Tapo app but could delete Kasa. Why is Kasa so much more?

I don't really need four of the energy monitoring plugs, but I can stomach buying 4 for $23, which makes the Tapo a much better idea for me. $40 is excessive when I'm really only looking for 1-2 right now. I guess I could resell, but that's a hassle.

I have both of TP-Link's brands in my house, Kasa and Tapo (plugs/switches/outlets). I suspect the Kasa line is being phased out, given that the Tapo app supports both. I deleted my Kasa app, and have both Kasa and Tapo devices paired via the Tapo app. I suspect ,many of the Kasa devices will be rebranded as Tapo (I suspect they already are) - I have a couple Tapo switches on order and am curious to compare them with my Kasa switches - I suspect they will be virtually identical except for branding.

The switches in this "deal" are pricy because of being Apple Home compliant as well as Matter compliant - if neither matter to you, the regular multipacks of Kasa on/offs and dimmers are cheaper.

As someone above also stated, Tapo is likely going to be the way forward. The Tapo app is more full featured and supports all the Kasa devices. This suggests they may phase out the Kasa app in favor of the Tapo app, but this hasn't been confirmed. Up until a few months ago, I had all Kasa devices. I have slowly been getting the Tapo devices lately and switching over to the Tapo app.

But I do believe the Kasa devices will still be supported in the Tapo app for the long run (according to hints from mods on the TP-Link forums). This is why I am not switching out everything, keeping my Kasa Switches and still using most of my older Kasa devices as well. I just use the Tapo app more exclusively now, even to automate the older Kasa devices.

My Amazon Visa was 20%, not 25%, and I grabbed 4 more Kasa Smart Plug KP200 outlets for $16/each after tax. Thanks!

I know at least the energy monitoring outlets are not normally this cheap.

Does Kasa/Tapo have "Matter over Thread" compatible switches yet or are they coming in the future?

I too have heard Kasa is getting phased out, but Tapo smart switch options are almost nonexistent. There are no 3-way switches, there are none that supports Homekit, etc. How does one go about replacing Kasa for Tapo when Tapo equivalent options are nonexistent?

Tapo was their international line that they are only now bringing to the US. They will likely merge kasa into tapo as the app already can use pretty much all kasa devices, app def feels more premium, and even some of the devices. That said, kasa is still very much quality and will work with the tapo app anyway so I woulnd't be too worried about support longvity or anything.

Looking through a few "Kasa vs Tapo" threads, it breaks down to this:

Kasa:
- more diverse range of products over Tapo
- integration with IFTTT (smart home integration)
- can set "scenes" amongst all or select devises

Tapo:
- looks like most items are only controlled through the Tapo app. This may be false with the new products coming out.
- appears not to be IFTTT friendly. Again, could be wrong with new updates.

Basically, for basic non-integration usage, you'd be fine with either. Tapo being the most affordable of the two. If you want smart home integration, stick with Kasa.

Referencing an earlier post, Kasa is not being phased out by Tapo. They are two different product lines from the same parent company. Tapo is just the budget line.

This is summed up by skimming a few articles so please do your own research to draw conclusions.

Tapo plugs that work with Homekit are cheap, but no energy monitoring so pass.
The Kasa Homekit ones do have that feature.

That being said, I have too many Wifi plugs.
I wish Thread only plugs for Homekit were cheaper so I could stop clogging up my wifi.

If it helps, I went from a Netgear Wifi6 setup to a TP-Link Deco mesh system. Huge improvement with 52 connected clients, mostly smart home things.

True. As of now, I don't think it would be necessary considering all the Kasa devices are backwards compatible with the Tapo app. This is why I haven't even considered switching any of my Kasa switches, which is what I have installed in a majority of my home. The Tapo app allows full control and has the same features for the Kasa switches, so I do believe they will keep the support for the long run.
