They are spiteful and don't want to pay the company that owns the patent so they turned off the feature. Remember if it doesn't make money for them, they don't want it.

I think I read on appleinsider that tides will be available on series 9 as confirmed by the beta OS release - apple just didn't include that fact in the announcement yesterday.

Edit: I read it on macrumors "An all-new Tides app designed for the Apple Watch Series 10 also comes to the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 ."
