Recommend as a good entry-level premium knife for home chefs. Chef's knife is probably the most versatile option and Shun makes good consumer-grade knives. Japanese steel is hard and holds its edge, just a bit more susceptible to chipping
FYI, I have few Shun knives. Shun VG10 or VG-max may be a bit on chippy side; but, when well cared and used, they are awesome. For no-nonsense daily use, I use German or Taiwanese knives.
