Just to clear up some confusion. This is a WIFI 6 device, which means it runs on all the same bands, so there is no difference between the two when it comes to wifi bands.

Which is better overall, if your going to use the 2.5Gig lan port which most people are not, the GL.Net is better, from a hardware perspective but at almost double the cost of this.

The GL.Net also has built in VPN support, which the TP-Link (shows it might have a version of OpenVPN but not full featured from another comment, later found Dongs reviews which shows full featured so it indeed does have a full featured VPN client/server option).

So in short, hardware almost identical, except for the GL having the 2.5Gbps port. Software, GL has built in VPN, TP-Link needs you to have it installed on the client device. So people have to decide if those two differences are worth the extra $40-50.

I watched a youtube video reviewing this router and the the guy doing the review offered this promo code on his website. The video is at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReeQpzQGvcM
I like the GL.inet better personally. I just bought the GL-E750 cause I can put a microSD card in it loaded with movies and access it while on a plane

This is something I didn't realize I needed until this deal. I really don't want to add another device to my work travel bag thou. I usually just use my hotspot instead of the venue or hotel wifi but I really like the idea of this.

Don't know why it is a deal except for the low price for an out of date AX feature? It's is an AX1500 (obsolete AX) vs AX1800 (GL.inet Slate) vs AX3000 (Asus and GL.inet Beryl).
Because your talking about a zero difference in any real perceivable speed difference if any when it comes to AX1500 and AX1800 and AX is not obsolete, lol. I dont know many people who need to be getting over 700Mbps regularly to their devices and I dont know many hotels that even provide you speed to even take advantage of AX, because of throttling.

I like the built-in VPN feature in the GL.Net I can't remember if it has the kill-switch feature though. It's not a must have if you run VPN on your OS or in your browsers though but it's a great feature. Sometimes I do turn off VPN if download speed is impacted.

Netflix also doesn't like some of the VPN providers so need to turn it off at times.

I also run VPN on some of the Windows machine I have (OS level VPN) with kill switch.

Then I also use some browser- based VPN extensions in Chrome as well. I got it everywhere!!!! lol
I agree, there are times that you need to have it off, so an always on option isnt always a one size fits all scenario.

Its big advantage is you dont have to worry about your data connection or hotspot data limit from your cellphone carrier. You can just jump on the hotel wifi and syphon their connection all day.

Yes, as mentioned by a previous poster, if you log into the captive portal once with this device it will allow all computers and devices to just connect like normal.

How doe this compare with GL.net?
Googling didn't find any chipset information on the TPLink. I'd go with any GL.iNet one except the SiFlower ones (e.g. GL-SFT1200) as SiFlower doesn't open source their drivers so the software might die before the device. The cheapest GL.iNet travel router with AX right now is $87 (Mediatek), the cheapest travel router that is AC is $69 (Qualcomm), and their cheapest travel router with N is $28 (yellow one is Mediatek, Black one is Qualcomm).

Another advantage on the travel routers is that you can power them with portable battery banks, so something as physically large and power hungry as the TP-Link (requires 9V/12V USB PD) is not as good as the GL.iNet Beryl AX which would run off a 5V battery bank.

It supports VPN https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/4090/
TP-Link has a crippled version of OpenVPN server - you can't create accounts with username/password. This router is not an exception, according to your link.

I said the AX1500 is obsolete 4 years ago along with the implemental hardware, not the general AX protocol. It has been replaced by the new AX protocol. The WIFI 7 is still an AX protocol.

Yet neither of the products you spoke of have Wifi 7 and Wifi 6 AX is not going anywhere as its a standard protocol and will be around for many years to come.....

The N, AC protocols still exist but does anyone continue to produce or anyone buys those obsolete. The misconception is the backward compatible and obsolete. For the market values, none pay for AX1500 more than $25. AX1800 is less than $50 and AX3000 is around $80-$100. The ASUS travel router is right on that range and GL.iNet Beryl has a better value.

I am currently in the market for a home router. Would this be suitable for 24/7 use at home or is it not a good idea to use it in that way?

Lol dude, what do you think a lot of home automation runs on 2.4Ghz G+AC..... All the antennas in a router have them implemented which is why they provide backward compatibility, so yes to items still being produced with them. When a little information can make you dangerous Peace .

This would have a very limited range, so unless you are in a 1 bedroom or studio apartment this might be very underpowered for your use case scenario. Plenty of better deals pop up regularly for home based routers.

Like this deal still going but not sure for how long till they clearance all the stock.

People don't make or order obsolete product. They clear their old inventory as many as they can to save money. How much you know about the automation industry?

Way more than you it seems since almost all NEW home automation products are still using 2.4Ghz as their standard..... So yes people still make and order obsolete products, or else those robot vaccs would all say they support 5Ghz which they dont...

Its okay to admit you are wrong and you can move on with your life, because this is literally costing me minutes of my life I am never getting back.

Unlike the previous travel router TL-WR902AC v1 and v3, this new model isn't supported by OpenWRT.
