The original individual season sets released by Fox were horrendous with most of the original music replaced with generic music. However, SHOUT FACTORY obtained the rights to approximately 80% of the original songs and these are included on the SHOUT FACTORY release. I am so thankful to SHOUT FACTORY for going the extra mile to restore as much of the original music as they could. This is a wonderful set and probably the best that we will ever get in physical media.

Found this on Reddit in regards to the music included as well as the music missing on the SHOUT DVD Set:

Open the GOOGLE Docs link to see WKRP - Complete spreadsheet of every song played on the show. As well as an indicator on the side concerning a song's presence on Shout's DVD set.

Hope this is helpful...

This show can be found late nights on over the air TV... Maybe the Catchy Comedy channel?
Their predecessor, Decades, aired it, but that's been a few years and it was only on certain affiliates. For some reason (probably the music!), it was the one and only show they weren't able to air it on every affiliate and replaced it with something else (can't remember what, seems like it was Taxi or something else that aired in the same era) in some cities and on all streaming services.

you should mention the format in the title. I was almost going to buy it until I saw it was a dvd set. If it had been streaming copy, it would already be in my library and up next to watch.
I really don't see this ever coming to streaming, at least not as well as they've done this DVD set. It's not perfect (still some music missing), but they went through a ton of effort to get what was on there cleared JUST for the DVDs. They'd likely have to go through the entire process again to get it to streaming, and unless they got lucky and got all of the exact same clearances again, it would be back to square one for the most part.

Thanks.... I remember hearing a similar thing about "The Wonder Years".... even the beautiful opening theme was removed and replaced with a cover band type thing (if memory serves).

The show has actually not been shown on TV that much in the past 20 years (and as far as I know,

"Northern Exposure" also came to DVD without the original music. Lots of PC games like Quake lost music. Quake became silent after Nine Inch Nails music was pulled (not by the band I believe). Maybe with all the music for free on torrents, Napster, Kazaa et al the labels just played hard on any chance to get royalties

There was a show I liked years ago called Keen Eddie, about a NY cop ending up in London, and the premiere, at least, featured a bunch of UK rock and punk. Sex Pistols and whatnot. One scene in particular was edited to the beat of "One Step Beyond" by Madness. It's gone, along with all the rest, replaced with generic crap on the DVD release, and it's too minor a show for it to be worthwhile to fix.

Baby, if you've ever wondered...
Man.... I always thought Les Nessman sang the intro.. just wiki'd it and found out it was an urban legend. That's a bummer... but when we picked up our first corgi from the breeder just outside of Cincinnati, the wifey and I got a good duet going and the kids were like... what the???? These poor kids these days... no WKRP... no Muppet show... no Electric Company... no Thursday night Night Court / Cosby Show / Family Ties, no Saturday morning cartoons, no Star Blazers... man, 70's and 80's were the place to be.

I worked in radio for about a decade in the 80s-90s because of this show. There are so many similarities of actual life at a radio station. I was like Johnny working Venus' overnight shift.

But if they actually replaced Pink Floyd's "Dogs" with some generic schlock, I don't want this.

I also used to work for a smaller station in a medium sized market at the same era and it is so relatable. From the characters to the situations. (Remotes were always a real adventure, and we didn't have turkeys.) We even had our own version of Red Wigglers, a local tire shop. The most fun place I ever worked. WKRP brings back a lot of memories, mostly good.

I think the bottom line is that people laughed more. Not only would you laugh your azz off while watching it, you would laugh again the next day rehashing it with coworkers and friends.
