Bought my third pan from these guys recently, and all of them have been basically flawless (purchased both "packaging damage" and "second quality," can't tell the difference myself). All of them have been D3, but the last one was D3 Everyday, and the handle is MUCH nicer. If I didn't already have a 12 inch D3 fry pan, I might try out that 12.5 inch G5, seems like a great deal.

Last time I picked up the D3 Everday 3-qt saute pan, but it was $70 after discount versus $85 today. I usually look for items which have a greater than 50% discount, these sales happen every month or two, so don't be too concerned about missing out, it'll come back around.

These will last you your entire life. I have had a set of D5 for 8 years and they are in perfect condition. My wife and I cook nearly every meal ourselves and these are amazing. Other pans we've bought warp or the handle comes loose after a year, even other premium brands.

There is some really nice inventory right now for those of you stocking a new kitchen (particularly the sauce pans). I'd jump on it with the 15% coupon because the selection will no doubt start to thin out. Here would be my recommendations for the basics:

Sauce pans: There is a lot of good inventory at good prices today and I would recommend getting both the 2 quart saucier [homeandcooksales.com] and a 3-quart saucepan [homeandcooksales.com] (which are each $76 after coupon). The All-Clad steamer insert is an outstanding accessory for the saucepan but it's not available this time around.

Skillet: The 12' fry pan w/ lid [homeandcooksales.com] is a must-have and $85 after coupon is not an unusual deal but still that's close to as cheap as it ever gets.

Saute pan: A 3 quart saute pan is another staple pan but the D3 that's often available for around $70 isn't priced well this time. I would consider the D5 for $85 [homeandcooksales.com]. I am not a fan of D5 for all your pans but for the saute pan the heavier D5 would perform well.

Stock pot: I recommend having an enamel-coated cast iron Dutch Oven in your kitchen (that's not All-Clad), and if you're tight on space and budget then you could use that as your stock pot as well, but if you have room for both, get the All-Clad D3 8-quart [homeandcooksales.com] stock pot.

For questions about the differences between all the lines, check out the All-Clad Pots & Pans Advice thread.

Great insights.

As a full-time nomad, I travel light, but given the variability of cookware in Airbnbs, I'd like to take either a fry or sauce pan (with lid). I'm thinking the sauce pan is more versatile (for pastas etc in addiiton to eggs / meats), am I thinking about it the wrong way?
Get a chef's pan or everyday essential pan.

Sauce pan is too "square" for some things.

Is this [homeandcooksales.com] D3 (I couldn't find any information on the page), I would like a lid so it's a bit more flexible.
Yes, that's a D3. It's a great versatile skillet but it is not small.

Any issues with these being made in China?
See the FAQ thread. For the core stainless pots & pans, only the lids and handles are made in China. As for the other All-Clad products, I wouldn't buy them anyway.

I love All-Clad. I would never buy one of their appliances or kitchen tools. They are mostly outsourced or rebadged and priced at triple their value. Take immersion blenders. You can get the superior Braun Multiquick regularly for less than this sale price.

Edited: All stainless steel clad pans and pots (excluding lids and handles) are made in USA. All other items are made in China. IMHO only All-Clad stainless steel clad pots and pans without nonstick are worth buying at this site. There is no issue with those stainless steel clad pots and pans.

That's not true when you read the actual product specs.

Awesome overview and advice! Just chiming in to echo your recommendation regarding the 2-qt saucier. I got one a few sales back and use it at least daily - usually more - now. Life-changing. For more info on sauciers vs saucepans, check out this article on Serious Eats (where they recommend the All-Clad): https://www.seriouseats.com/best-...rs-5219503

He should have said all All-Clad stainless clad pots and pans (D3, D5, Copper Core, G5) are made in the US.

But those are the only ones anybody should consider buying...

Ooh, that's a nice article. Agreed. I have All-Clad's 2-qt and 4-qt sauciers, and the 3-qt sauce pan.
They are all great but the 2-qt saucier is my go-to for sauces (also great for reheating, for rice, for boiling some dumplings...).
The 4-qt is perfect for large quantity sauces but also smaller stews like dal, braises, small batches of pasta, amazing for popcorn.

What's your thought on getting the all-clad d3 7 or 10 piece for a beginner (when on sale)? Would you still recommend getting individual pieces you recommended?

Edit: I decided and take the plunge and went ahead and got the 3 pans you suggested. Thank you for detailed recommendations!
Now, can someone recommend a good set or types of kitchen tool sets (spatula's etc.) to use with these pans?

Thanks for adding the important words that I didn't include in my comment. That's what I meant.

Thanks, got the D3 Everyday 3qt saute pan, was thinking of the D5 but decided against the weight this time. Should be passable for steaks I hope!
