If you are travelling to Japan on Japan Airlines from the US, you may also book a domestic flight, in the same reservation, and stopover for free if it's 24 hours or less. If you are planning to spend more than a day in your stopover city, there will be a $100 fee. Still not a bad deal.
You must book your travel directly with Japan Airlines [jal.com], both the round trip international and domestic in the same booking.
