Got an email from [email protected] claiming to be from M&T bank this morning. Anyone else get the same email? I'm wondering if it's legit or a scam attempt. I've already sent a secure message over to M&T's customer service dept. I'll update once I hear back.

I just got off the phone with M&T Bank customer service who told me you need to be a targeted customer having received a card in the mail to get any of their bonus offers. I tried explaining to the representative that this was an online offer and she repeated the same thing. I provided the link and she showed it to her supervisor and said you could try, but you will not get the listed bonus. What gives? Is this a fake posting or what???

I think they're just wrong, but I only opened my account 2 days ago. So I'm still in the processing of transferring funds.

I encountered part of the screen grab pictured below while filling out my application.

Only caveat here is that these bonuses are fully taxable. Whereas credit card rewards are generally not.

Yes, but even assuming the 50% tax, you're still getting hundreds of dollars on these bonuses.

Also, any reason not to do both checking and credit card bonuses?

So for the $500 bonus, you'd need to maintain $2500 balance for 6 months to avoid the monthly fee and close-out fee.

Leaving $2500 at M&T and earning almost zero interest works out to missing about $62.50 in a 5% high yield account. So I would rather pay the $50 close out fee and not have to worry about monthly maintenance after receiving the bonus.
Where would you see that on the site? I couldnt find the $500 bonus mentioned anywhere. And what type of account to be opened for this 500$ bonus?
