Excuse my ignorance but this is my first time seeing such a thing. How does this compare with having a smartwatch? Seems like any smartwatch or a Garmin one would be much better?

I have had this exact unit for a few years. I personally do not like to wear a big watch while golfing so GPS watch is out of question for me.

Stand alone GPS unit has been around for a long time. SkyCaddie has many nice units but they require yearly subscription. To me G80 hits a sweet spot with its large enough touch screen, hole\green layout map and no subscription requirement. Apps that run on smartphones are still banned in most serious competitions so this is pretty much the next best thing.

Launch monitor is rather basic but numbers are quite good compare to more advanced models. It's more a bonus feature that is nice to have and available at fingertip. Just do not expect $15K Foresight or Flightscope accuracy.

I have this and R10. I use this all the time and rarely take out the R10. Surely the data points are better with R10 but most of the time G80 gives me enough info and ready to go in 5 seconds.
I updated my G80 for the first time in quite a while a couple of months back, and I was absolutely amazed how many versions they have updated.

Anyone know how this compares to the Voice Caddie from Costco? I want to get basic club distances as cheap as possible.

Are you referring to the sc300? I have one. Seems to catch most of the shots and the data seems pretty accurate. This garmin one looks to be a GPS with course info first and launch monitor second

Yeah that one. I usually just use my watch for on course but would like to see how my gapping looks. Don't have any simulator access nearby.

Launch monitor on G80 compares more to SC200 because spin rate is estimated. If I am not mistaken, SC300 actually has measured back spin rate and compare closer to Flightscope Mevo. All of these can only give you data on vertical demension.

R10 and Mevo+ measure spin rate on both X and Y axials, as well as horizontal launch direction to give 3D ball flight info.

Why does the r10 need a firmware upgrade. It works perfect

I have had these standalone units, the watch is more convenient I find.I have an older Garmin s42, it gives the frt middle back to the green plus hazards , graphics are crude but for a 20 handicapper its good enough.

I'm glad I slept on this deal. After some thought, a smartphone would outlast, be better, and cost less than a standalone device like this.

Good device. Wish the price was better given how old the unit is. Garmin should update this with AMOLED screen and real course images.

Is anybody finding this product on the Garmin site for the price mentioned?
