It's not out yet. You can pre-order it, if that's what you mean?

But yeah, agreed that focusing could be a good reason for the new one. Sony's autofocus has improved tremendously the last couple of years.
You are right, I thought that it was already available.

This lens has excellent image quality in the center of the frame, and a lot of character.

I actually prefer this for portraits over most of the newer GM glass, which are rather sterile looking. For sports or action though, this lens is a DOG

It's autofocus isn't any faster than the 90mm 2.8 Macro lens lol, slow racking, not much confidence. From a rendering standpoint, it's a beautiful lens though

Still, the Sigma or Zeiss equivalents are probably even better.

The new lens will be insanely sharp wide open edge to edge, with no ghosting / flaring, and will focus fast enough for sports and action photography.

What will be the MSRP of that? Is it just 10% better or a notable improvement?
This is one of Sony's oldest lenses in the series the question is not will it be better the question is do you need this lenses vs a third party compeditor

Hmm. Decisions decisions. The mark ii is coming out soon, which is why this is on sale.

EDU price for this is now $1,169.10.
how does this compare performance wise to the mark ii? sale price is much better than new.
