It also bears asking, "Why even use charcoal in the first place?"

Presumably, it's from the false belief that charcoal pastes would whiten more than a silica abrasive toothpaste, but numerous studies show that silica and charcoal pastes have similar effect on removing stains from teeth. So, you will usually pay more for the same effect when searching out charcoal pastes without any proven benefit in whitening.

Then one should ask, "Is using more aggressive abrasives to scrub away my enamel the best way to whiten teeth?" In my opinion it is not. Whitening toothpastes are on average three times more abrasive than conventional pastes. That's how they remove stain. I personally choose to use bleach to achieve tooth whitening while leaving more of my protective enamel intact.

The charcoal wears off in a few brushes. It's a gimmick. Better to buy charcoal powder and dip your tooth brushes in that. It's substantial cheaper, and more charcoal on your brushes.

Don't fall for it. "Medium" might as well be a steel wire brush

Question is why do we need to whiten our teeth. Teeth are not expected to be white anyways. Mostly they are off white which is their natural color.
I would not fall prey to whitening marketing gimmick and cause irreparable damage to the health of teeth.
Whitening teeth for special occasions could be okay but not for everyday appearance.

Custom bleaching trays with carbamide peroxide based on your level of sensitivity.

For stock trays, Opalescent GO 15% after having a dental appointment to make sure there are no open cavities or exposed dentin.
