On official microsoft store too, I see there's one page for just controller [microsoft.com] and another page for controller + cable [microsoft.com]; but in this case, both are priced $60! What gives? Why would anyone buy only controller if they can also get the cable for the same price?

Two things about the cable.. (1) it pairs wireless to your xbox so you don't need a cable, and (2) most people already have stacks of cables and don't necessarily need another one
