If you do your research on this shoe you will learn that Asics reduced the amount of the premium OBC infused foam that is in this model compared to version 1. The midsole is mainly EVA and very firm. There's minimal shock attenuation or and because the midsole is not supercritical, there's also no rebound. This is an old school early 2000s firm pair of bricks. The anti-modernity Luddites in the running community sometimes refer to these retrograde show models as "responsive". As if it's a desirable quality to feel the jarring impact of every foot fall reverberate up your limbs and spinal column. There are far better EVA models to choose from, even at this price. PEBA is even better.
I'm familiar with the Kayano series but not the specifics in terms of what material changes occured between v28 and v29. The Runrepeat website conducts thorough objective analysis on shoes. One of the metrics they test for is midsole firmness. Kayano 29 measured 21 HA for midsole firmness. The lower the number the softer the midsole. As a point of comparison, the HOKA Gaviota, also a stability shoe, has a midsole that is a mere 12.9 HA. That's extremely soft.
Wish there were wide sizes!

https://runrepeat.com/asics-magic-speed-2 - Not intended to be high energy return, these are made for short runs. Check the review for details.

Maybe you might know. Did Asics change the cushion from the kayano 28 to the kayano 29?

Both were acquired from Asics USA, not woot/amazon/dicks/etc.

I don't run, but have ankle damage, I found the kayano 28 and loved it as a daily wear, still do. I got the 29 and it seems hard, like an Asics trail running shoe I used to wear.

Asics shoes wear out really fast as compared to ON or Hoka or NB at the same price range.Going to skip these for running from now on.

For anyone looking for a great ASICS trainer, the Novablast 4 is an amazing shoe. I have two of the regular and one trail version and I highly recommend it.

ONs deteriorate the second that you look at them. Source: had gens 1-3 for the Flows and will not go for ONs again even though they work for my biomechanics

It's interesting that you had this experience. Personally I felt in order of durability from most to least was asics=new balance, hokas then On last. I have used several iterations of the kayanos and they tend to last the longest before I feel the shoe degrading. I will say, the last kayanos weren't as great out of the box as previous models. I have a NB factory in my hometown that has good sales so I often try different models and like most (tend to stay above the 800's). The hokas arahis I was a fan of, got them from a REI sale around 80 dollars and enjoyed at this price but I felt like they were not worth the full 140. The ons are coworkers favorite's at work but that's mostly for asthetics cause the nurses like them. I tried them and returned them because they felt fragile under my frame. (6ft, 215 lbs)

What running shoe models do you recommend? Brand and shoe would be helpful. You seem knowledgeable.
