so the issue is the new Ultra 200 series absolutely demolishes the Ultra 100 series in everything, 15-25 hour battery life, gaming performance for an iGPU is insane.

intel isn't even making the chip in-house and is being made by TSMC, which is insane considering intel has its own fabrication. it was released ahead of schedule as an answer to the ultra-efficient arm chips and the only way they can make it is to have someone else make the chip.

so if you buy this device, you're only 1 generation behind, but it was a huge improvement. if you're spending $1500+ for a device, you would wanna know of something like this

What you're describing is lunar lake. (battery and gpu improvements plus relatively earlier release)

First, not all Ultra 200 series will be lunar lake. They will also include arrow lake at the end of the year and most likely refreshed meteor lake or refreshed raptor lake too. Just like how the U series of meteor lake (current generation) are actually refreshed raptor lake (previous generation).

https://videocardz.com/newz/intel...-refreshes

https://wccftech.com/intel-core-u...s-spotted/

Second, lunar lake (intel series 2) doesn't beat the current meteor lake (intel series 1) in all aspects so you can't really say it "absolutely demolishes" the previous generation.

Lunar lake has worse multicore performance due to losing hyperthreading and only having 8 CPU cores (4 P cores + 4 E cores), so only having 8 threads.

https://videocardz.com/newz/core-...-geekbench

https://www.xda-developers.com/be...lake-leak/

As for the GPU, yea, lunar lake will likely offer the fastest integrated GPU out there. Even faster than AMD's latest 890m. However, meteor lake's GPU is no slouch as it's just under AMD's (same generation as meteor lake) 780m (so a huge improvement over raptor lake).

Furthermore, since lunar lake will be new, there likely won't be any good deals this season. And if there happen to be a few sales, they'll still pale in comparison with deals on meteor lake models since, if they're no longer the newest generation, they'll be more heavily priced down.

So with meteor lake, buyers can get better multicore performance along with better deals while with lunar lake, buyers can get better battery/gpu performance, but paying close to full price without much of a deal (obviously, the latest and greatest will cost more).

I mean, this is slickdeals, right? So people are going to be looking for good deals and heavily priced down items. This isn't the pc master race subreddit. This is slickdeals.

Also, when lunar lake really starts going on sale mid/end of next year, there's going to be the next gen coming up again. Next year, it's going to be panther lake, which will again be a huge improvement (for example, for the GPU, there will be 12 Arc Xe3 Celestial cores in panther lake compared to the 8 Arc Xe2 Battlemage cores in lunar lake).

So you're going to wait again? At that rate, you'll be waiting forever and never actually making a purchase.

Would love to get this. But operating system integration and flimsy quirks will eat at you and frustrate you. Side by side is usually better than top and down. But kudos to ASUS/Lenovo for trying this out and using it to work out the kinks in a version 1, I'll buy version 3 Smilie

This laptop has dual 3K 14" OLED 120hz screen. So very good for productivity.

Spec:
- dual 14" 120hz screen, 2880x1800, OLED
- Ultra 9 185H
- 32GB LPDDR5x RAM
- 1TB SSD
- Weight: 3.64 lbs
- 75Wh battery

Most places are selling this laptop at MSRP $1699. Antonline is selling this at 10% discount.

However, the seller has another item https://www.ebay.com/itm/305592106063, which is identical but at MSRP $1699.

Both items are listed as new.

Just want to share this and see if anyone has experience with this seller.

Thanks.

Dual screens are cool, but I have yet to see one in the wild (at coffee shops, etc). How practical/portable is this really? Or is it more a desktop replacement?

It is very portable. Thinner than my Dell 5000 series I have for a different company. The dual screen helps with conference calls, screen is at the right level for me. With interviewing it is great to have the resume on the bottom screen and the video conference on the top. It looks like you keep more face to face contact. It is not heavy, and feels very sturdy. Only think I have is that I wish the keyboard could be put at an angle, like the surface pro.

Attend a few cyber-security training classes and you'll see dual and triple screen setups! When I work remotely and am stuck on my laptop with one screen (compared to my multi-screen setup in the office) it's quite irritating alt-tabbing between applications. Definitely not something most people need but for work I can see this being very popular. Only problem is that most companies want to spend the bare-minimum on laptops for their employees.
