Nope. None of them will port in 4k. You have to buy them in 4k to port 4k.

They only auto upgrade to 4k if purchased direct from apple, these are from Amazon, so will stay HD when ported to apple

You're not wrong, but he's not wrong either. Video compression is pretty decent these days so you may not notice as much difference over streaming anymore, but you will notice on the audio. Compression there for streaming vs on a disc makes a huge difference.

How has Disney not released the unedited original trilogy upscaled to HD or 4K? Did Lucas destroy the original theatrical versions?

$20 bucks for the entire collection (minus Rogue One), its pretty good even though its HD and not 4K. I have the Hulu/Disney bundle from last year's black friday, who knows if Disney will offer the bundle this year.

Technically, the compression is the same. It's the video bitrate that's so much better on disc.

He is right and wrong. Right with the fact that the disc is of a much better quality than streaming. The bitrate leap is gigantic on disk. The audio is where I notice it the most however with channel separation and dynamic range much much better. But for a ;quick watch on a laptop, streaming is quite good and easy to use.

Stars wars has passed it's prime for the new generation. It's the hype without any substance that keeps it going. Also, Disney made sure they destroyed it.

I've found it YMMV. Sometimes the remastered/directors cuts/ultimate/signature/etc. gets treated like the same movie and you get that too. Sometimes the studios/vaults pretend it's an entirely different movie, remove the "version" you own and then want your money again for the "new" version, sometimes they sell the exact movie you bought to another studio and suddenly you don't "own" it anymore and there is zero compensation. I've purchased around 1,000 movies at this point, but have started transitioning back to physical media for anything I really want to watch regularly. I rarely watch TV anyway, just want a library to satiate my hoarding habit and view when traveling. But stealing movies I've never even gotten to watch but paid them to "own" seems so devious.

Granted, audio streams available on streaming can be a bit hit or miss (as can the playback device's ability to decode them), but audio takes up so little bandwidth that often the streaming audio is equivalent to the disc. The thing that's always better though is the video bitrate, and often Dolby Vision and HDR are much better as well. Finally, your disc player can do a lot of visual enhancements that just aren't possible with streaming too.

Another thing to consider is the equipment you're using. A $300 55in LCD from Wal-Mart isn't going to hold a candle to a $1500 55in OLED. In the case of budget equipment, 4K streaming isn't going to look much worse than a 4K disc, but that's because of the equipment being used.

If you are interested in watching the trilogy before lucas desecrated it in the 90s with digital edits, google 4k77 or harmys despecialized. The trilogy still lives
