Note that the previous thread on this has a massive amount of technical discussion about practically every aspect of this router and detailed setup instructions etc. If looking for answers, I'd start with a search in that thread (terms like OpenWRT, DD-WRT, stock, CA, mesh, USB, throughput, wired, backhaul, bricked, etc). That may be a good start for those new to it, as it probably already answers a lot of questions that are sure to crop up.

Also, here's a link to some of the basic support docs for it from the Linksys site …

Unusable on the stock firmware. It works if you install openwrt or ddwrt.

Wow. I didn't even know this was possible. Looking to use DDWRT setup, which appears to be easier. Does anyone know if I need to setup the mesh again once I go the DDWRT route? Thanks in advance.

Is it true that the USB port on the back of the router is not usable? I like to plug a hard drive into it that contains my movies so I can stream them upstairs.
You will have to go with DD-WRT or OpenWRT to use the USB port to do that. I used DD-WRT, and it worked OK.

Wowdeez! It's back again and I'm back to pick the 4th one even though I absolutely and positively don't need more than 3. Power of SD. 😭

Fwiw, I flashed OpenWRT on the 3 I got and the mesh is working wonderfully well on @qosmio's NSS build. Couldn't be any more happier and I would say that this is the deal of this year if not for the decade!

2 GB RAM + 1 GB flash + tri-band + awesome openwrt and ddwrt support + Wi-Fi 6 + $15... No brainer!

This is what I posted on the last thread if anyone is willing to stay on stock but I love openwrt and have been using it for two weeks or so and absolutely love it 😃

Instructions for enabling MESH (thanks to @rbtcordell for the original source):

1-Setup your Main router completely.

2-Plug your child node using the wan port to the main router lan port, wait for a solid purple light on the child node before proceeding

3-Log into your main router web admin.

4-Click on CA at the bottom right.

5-Click on Connectivity and CA Router setup.

6-Click on both Add Wired and Add Wireless nodes buttons. Wait for the Add wireless button to re-enable.

7-Click Done adding Child Nodes and then Apply.

8-Now the child node light should start flashing purple and turn into a mesh mode when it turns blue.

9-Disconnect Ethernet and wait for blue light again.

10-Move node to desired location.

9w at idle seems high. 15w on a speed test I am not sure.

I have had a linksys mesh system (I believe WiFi -5). Can you set up this as the Father router, and change all my old ones as child nodes?

There's a reason why these are so cheap. Garbage router brand, riddled with security holes/flaws. Inflation is so high the cheapest shipping method is like $10+. Basically selling this for a loss. 😂
That's why you flash openwrt and all it takes is a grand total of not more than 15 minutes. No brainer deal and I already ordered my 4th. Lol

I bought one last time to replace a 12 year old Netgear router. For me, it works great even on stock firmware.

Yep, it's a pretty impressive piece of hardware for the price. It can serve some basic needs with even the stock firmware and has huge potential for more advanced uses when flashed. And so many people seem to recognize what a great deal it is, that the support on that side of things just keeps growing.
