Note that the previous thread on this has a massive amount of technical discussion about practically every aspect of this router and detailed setup instructions etc. If looking for answers, I'd start with a search in that thread (terms like OpenWRT, DD-WRT, stock, CA, mesh, USB, throughput, wired, backhaul, bricked, etc). That may be a good start for those new to it, as it probably already answers a lot of questions that are sure to crop up.

Also, here's a link to some of the basic support docs for it from the Linksys site …

I ended up throwing mine away from the last deal. I tried connecting using a moca connector and Internet would never work.
Did you bother reaching out for help? If your incoming feed from ISP is coax then you need a cable modem to convert signal and feed RJ45. Just using MOCA to convert RJ45 to coax does not replace a cable modem.

If you have a different config then please detail. I have 5 of these (2 @ $15, 3 @ $20) and they all worked perfectly as router when tested, as access point when tested, and as mesh when tested. All with stock firmware.

You're not alone. I followed the instructions here. The initial version of OWRT to install. But the recommended update kept showing errors. Ran out of time, Gave up and ran with the stock firmware for the other two.

I originally purchased 3 in anticipation of a bricking. That said, I'm disappointed. I want firmware that lets me pick my DNS service. I want to use Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1. The less Xfinity knows about me the better.

Seems hard to brick these since if OpenWRT install to one partition fails, you can always boot to second partition witht the original firmware.

I think stock firmware lets you pick your DNS server(s), but only if you set to static IP instead of DHCP.

Don't ask questions, just buy it. A no-brainer at $15. There is a ton of information on other threads. I bought 3 at $20, 1 at $15 and couldn't be happier. Thanks OP. Cheers
I bought at $20 each. The price dropped to $15 days later and Woot! Issued a price match refund.

If anyone can get OpenWRT to flash please share your secret. I followed the instructions from the last thread and while the initial version flashed the upgrade had errors.

Got 2 of them from the last sale and got a mesh running in a few minutes with the stock firmware. Now getting 600 Mbps everywhere in the house. It's wild that you can set up a WiFi 6 system like this for $30 when the next cheapest option with similar specs and performance will be like $150 minimum.

Thx. I'll check that but didn't see it. And I'd rather stick with DHCP. I would have thought setting your own DNS would be standard by now.

9w at idle seems high. 15w on a speed test I am not sure.
This is the second post I've seen pointing out the high energy usage across this deal and the previous one and it is important to note if you're looking to save money - 9w idle is high and adds up if you're running multiple - that's at least 4.5 kwh per month if you're running 3. If you don't care about that it's still a great deal for the specs these have, it's going to cost you roughly $10 per year to run one of these 24x7.

I'm running 6 Netgear WAX 202s that I got a couple years ago for about $20 each and they don't even register any power usage when I tried to measure them, that's using OpenWRT on them. These are only dual band so I'd entertain an upgrade with these if it wasn't for this high energy usage.

I've had bad experiences with woot warranties, they wouldn't even warranty my Amazonbasics cable (woot said go to amazon, amazon said go to woot, I said youre the same company...)
Screenshot warranty. File claim through credit card. CC's normally extend warranties on electronics up to a year. Also good for guaranteeing free returns. YMMV.

It's back. I wonder how much longer they are going to keep finding these things in the back of the warehouse to keep doing these deals. I already picked up one for $15 on the last deal. Really don't need a second one but might still pick one up.
Is it any good?

Ordered a 3rd one! Already have 2 from the previous deal covering entire house with mesh enabled. $15 for a backup, I'll take it!

How do I start a wiki? I've collected the tech greatest hits from the last two mega-threads in Notepad. A regular post would be excessive.
