Note that the previous thread on this has a massive amount of technical discussion about practically every aspect of this router and detailed setup instructions etc. If looking for answers, I'd start with a search in that thread (terms like OpenWRT, DD-WRT, stock, CA, mesh, USB, throughput, wired, backhaul, bricked, etc). That may be a good start for those new to it, as it probably already answers a lot of questions that are sure to crop up.

Also, here's a link to some of the basic support docs for it from the Linksys site …

Bought one during last deal, it consumes 15 watts, my old linksys e1000 router was 6 watts only. Since I don't need mesh setup in apartment I decided to put back my old router.
Was this on stock settings?

How did you test this?
Using kill a watt, with stock firmware.

Yes its cheap, but not for the non-technical. The stock unit will have no firmware updates, and lacks band steering and fast roaming (a big feature of wifi-6). It's also huge and uses lots of power , and reports here are mixed on performance.

With that said, looks like a cheap fun toy but I wouldnt get this for anyone technically challenge to use.

Thank you! Maybe I should go back to my old AC 68u because I'm sure it used less power.

Finally set up two of these last week, one purchased from each previous deal. Xfinity in bridge mode, to the Linksys, mesh with the other unit. I've had NO issues since hooking them up, which is a helluva lot more than I can say for the Comcast router and mesh pod's capability. Previously had to restart those every day or two as they'd get wonky. No such rebooting has been needed by the Linksys.

Ordered two more: one to expand the mesh, another to shelve until OpenWRT is on a 100% stable build for this device!

Because I'm daft and didn't pay attention: these can't be used as a mesh network _unless_ one unit is a master node. Meaning, no mesh with Xfinity router.

You're not alone. I followed the instructions here. The initial version of OWRT to install. But the recommended update kept showing errors. Ran out of time, Gave up and ran with the stock firmware for the other two.

I originally purchased 3 in anticipation of a bricking. That said, I'm disappointed. I want firmware that lets me pick my DNS service. I want to use Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1. The less Xfinity knows about me the better.
Youre kidding? Stock firmware doesnt let you enter your own DNS service IP???

I got 2 for $15 each the last time around and I didn't have to do anything extra to add them to my Linksys mesh network. I plugged it into the main router via ethernet port, it flashed a few times and then went solid blue. Then I unplugged it from the router and moved it upstairs and it blinked red for a few seconds and then went solid blue and I've been good since. They both show up in the Linksys app as nodes.

Would this make a good travel router (VPN, multiple devices on hotel internet connection, etc.)?

Sorry if it has been asked before, but can I use this router to extend my WiFi with an Xfinity gateway?
Not out of the box, it doesn't have repeater/AP functionality built in that works with other models. If you have two LN1301 then the 2nd one can be an "extender" in the mesh network. So getting this to work with an Xfinity gateway likely involves installing OpenWRT which according to many people is quite the PITA.

Set 2 of these up at my parents' house as a mesh system. Blazing fast! 3 weeks running and so far so good.
How to use these as mesh? I couldn't figure out how to do that

It's too bulky for that purpose. BTW, the stock firmware is almost trash. I recommend GL.iNet for travel router.

Due to physical size, I would say no. This thing is the size of a breadbox.
