Note that the previous thread on this has a massive amount of technical discussion about practically every aspect of this router and detailed setup instructions etc. If looking for answers, I'd start with a search in that thread (terms like OpenWRT, DD-WRT, stock, CA, mesh, USB, throughput, wired, backhaul, bricked, etc). That may be a good start for those new to it, as it probably already answers a lot of questions that are sure to crop up.

Also, here's a link to some of the basic support docs for it from the Linksys site …

I still own wrt54gl lol. Obviously I do not use it and it has ddwrt. But since then, I am no longer a Linksys fan. They nerfed their routers. Man if this was an Asus Router, I wouldn't hesitate.

Well, to me the worst comment of the day\week\month\year\decade is the one stickied on the wiki: If you use a 3rd party firmware (DDWRT or OpenWRT) modified to work on this unit, you have no idea what this person might have added/subtracted to this firmware while modifying it to work on this unit.

LMAO

It's a joke what some of these guys think about open source. smh
And this is incorrect? Its one thing to download from an official open source project, its another to download by some random person on reddit who modified the open source xxWRT firmware to work on this router. Unless youre reading all the source code by this person and compiling it yourself i bet?

Ask them how many public eyes are on TPLink's firmware (none) versus DDWRT/OPENWRT (probably thousands, including yours if you know what you're doing). Truly don't understand.
That's not what was said. Open source official release project versus some person on reddit who modified the open source to work on a non-supported device by the project.

Unless this isn't what is going?

The openwrt firmware that everyone is using is not some black box.

The guy who made the changes for this particular router forked the official openwrt GitHub repo to his own GitHub repo. Then he applied 8 fairly small commits. And then he submitted those back to the official GitHub openwrt repo for eventual inclusion.

GitHub generates the compiled firmware from his repo.

It is all out in the open with a pretty secure system and plenty of eyes on it.

Over the years the practices and systems have improved to prevent the kind of tampering you're talking about.

But yeah. Don't go downloading some firmware off a random Russian file host.

lol

I am compiling qosmio's NSS build myself and have flashed several times already in the last couple of weeks as qosmio seems to be very busy and the team supporting his commits. Anything else to argue?

FWIW, the NSS build is as stable as any other build I have tried and the wireless mesh works wonderfully well... In fact, the stock firmware is so crippled that you CANNOT even specify with band to set for wireless backhaul is depressing, to say the least! And, you can set 802.11r roaming with all the additional config options is just amazing! To top it off, the boot takes less than 25 seconds which is insane compared to stock!

I've got 3 Google Wifi gen 1 AC1200 routers, 1 on each floor of my house, on a Cox 500 mbps internet plan. I only get about 500 mbps on the unit directly attached to my modem. The other 2 routers get like 30-50 mbps in the basement and 1st floor. Would a couple of these Linksys units be better?
I was using them and switch to these. They are so much better and doesn't drop the signal .

So I'm on stock firmware.

Linksys 1 (parent) is in bridge mode

I connect linksys 2 (child) using its internet port to linksys 1's LAN 1 port.

I get into linksys 1's GUI, go to CA and went through adding wired and wireless child node. I click apply but linksys 2's lights stayed purple and didn't blink.

What did I do wrong?

Yes. Refere previous FP deals for detailed instructions. It's very simple. I have 4. 1 as main and the other 3 as child
can i set this up as mesh with other brands of routers?

I'm trying to bridge and mesh with my existing router and it's been a terrible experience. The instructions are all over the place.

The answer seems to be yes but I haven't go it working yet

We do. Are you opening the source code and reviewing what this person did to all the source before compiling it yourself?
What an interesting question, seeing how Brainslayer has a git for his code. One can take a look at the source and even have it compiled for them, or are you questioning the chance of malicious code being compiled?

If that is the case, then your approach does bring into question all various products in the market. Does every consumer need to sit with a engineer/technician to understand how their automobile works and oversee the assembly process to make sure they are not incorporating defects or bad parts in the manufacturing process?

Seeing how the source code is available and controlled from developer to build release, I fail to see why you are questioning community collaboration where bugs and issues are reported by users and enthusiasts and incorporated in subsequent releases.

What kind of speed are you guys getting out of these. I bought 3 last time around. Originally got 500 MBS from my 1 gig fiber line when I set these up. Now I'm averaging 200-300 download and about the same upload. I wonder if I nerfed a setting. Right now xbox is only downloading at 150.... All wirelessly.

This router is huge and takes up alot of space. I returned mine since it could not connect on the Linksys app and needs to be accessed through internet browser. I use Linksys Atlas 6 and decided to get the same nodes on ebay.
