Note that the previous thread on this has a massive amount of technical discussion about practically every aspect of this router and detailed setup instructions etc. If looking for answers, I'd start with a search in that thread (terms like OpenWRT, DD-WRT, stock, CA, mesh, USB, throughput, wired, backhaul, bricked, etc). That may be a good start for those new to it, as it probably already answers a lot of questions that are sure to crop up.

Also, here's a link to some of the basic support docs for it from the Linksys site …

If that is the case, then your approach does bring into question all various products in the market. Does every consumer need to sit with a engineer/technician to understand how their automobile works and oversee the assembly process to make sure they are not incorporating defects or bad parts in the manufacturing process?
Exactly!

Brianslayer, the DDWRT boss, releases MX4300 firmware along with the bunch of other devices and I am NOT sure why the wiki poster thinks that the malicious code may or may not be in there? Of course, anything is possible but the OpenWRT source code is available and open to the public and is vetted by several folks and it's all in the open!

In any case, they can stay with the crippled stock, which will NEVER EVER get any update - how do I know this? I own Linksys MR9000 (2) + MR8300 and they never got any update in the past 2 years! smh

To top it off, OpenWRT interface is night and day compared to stock and it's so fluid and adjusts to the display, whether viewing it in a mobile/tablet/laptop, etc. And, you have a myriad of packages that can be installed right from the browser!

This router is huge and takes up alot of space. I returned mine since it could not connect on the Linksys app and needs to be accessed through internet browser. I use Linksys Atlas 6 and decided to get the same nodes on ebay.
it is not huge..and you conveniently left out that you decided to downgrade to dual band instead of tri-band

can i set this up as mesh with other brands of routers?
This will not form a mesh with routers of other brands using the factory firmware. The best you can do is set it up in bridge/AP mode. However if all routers are running OpenWRT or DD-WRT then it should be possible to mesh them.

So I'm on stock firmware.

Linksys 1 (parent) is in bridge mode

I connect linksys 2 (child) using its internet port to linksys 1's LAN 1 port.

I get into linksys 1's GUI, go to CA and went through adding wired and wireless child node. I click apply but linksys 2's lights stayed purple and didn't blink.

What did I do wrong?
How long did you wait? It could take a couple of minutes for the child to turn blue.

In for a third. Let me take 5$ off again. Takes a bit of time to arrive but they work out of the box. Mine also came with international outlet plugs.

I'm so confused by all the info and hope someone more knowledgeable can help.

What's the best way to set 3 of these up to cover a house with all of them wired over ethernet? Can I stay on stock firmware, or do I need to flash to something else? Do I need to enable mesh, or is just setting them up as 1 router and 2 wired APs sufficient?

Bought three of these to replace a deco m5. I would advise to immediately turn off node steering (advanced wifi setup) to keep your wireless mesh nodes from bouncing around and causing intermittent connectivity issues. Once I got the two mesh nodes to properly connect directly to the master I have had no issues at all and performance is a massive increase over the m5. An absolute steal at this price.

Yes, configure the master the way you want it then wire them as directed (wan on child node, lan on master) and complete the mesh setup. Move them to the location you want them and plug them in. Stock firmware works fine, no need to flash any custom firmware unless you want more advanced features.

I have a similar setup. 3 of these on 3 floors and using wired backhaul. Instructions to create a mesh on stock firmware are in the wiki. Working great for me so far. I plan to flash with Openwrt when they have a stable release.

The light didn't even flash when I hit apply tho. It just stayed solid light blue/cyan. I tried unplugging the ether Ethernet from it and the light turned red. I can try again.

Does linksys have an IOT network too? I'm this close to bridging my Verizon router instead and have the parent linksys as the router instead but my Verizon got the main, guest, and a iot network and I don't want to set up all the devices again.

Anyone know if this would work well with T-Mobile home internet? I have the black trashcan router
I have been using it on T-Mobile home internet. Connect the T-Mobile Ethernet port to the Linksys Internet port. I turned off the 5ghz SSID on the T-Mobile router using the T Life app on my phone. Could not turn off the 2.4ghz band so I changed the SSID to end with "T" so my devices would know not to connect to it. Running one Parent and two wireless nodes in stock FW mesh. You get a double NAT and CGNAT from T-Mobile so port forwarding and running a VPN server is not working. The problem with cellular home internet is you need to put your receiver/router at a corner or side window of your house to receive the best cell signal. The other side of your house has a hard time getting a good WiFi signal. By using Ethernet wired to a router in the center of your house or 2 Linksys in wireless mesh gives you much better WiFi throughout your place.
