Doesn't seem like a good price when the M4 with 16GB RAM in the base model is coming out in October.
After years Apple finally is acknowledging that 8GB of RAM renders a computer useless for most people.
While I agree it makes sense to wait a month, 16GB RAM could also push the base price up by a 100 at least and apple could be selling 2 versions of mac mini like they do with macbook air.
Apple wants all their devices to be AI eligible and is the only reason they they are upgrading it to 16GB. Just wait for them to monetize it . It benefits them in the long run.

While 8gb may be sufficient for now, AI softwares will demand minimum 16 gb. So better to wait for 16 gb deal. IMO
Safe to say this could be a good option for a dedicated Plex server? Or is this still not a great value and better can be had elsewhere?
Great of you have Apple devices all around. Worth the premium. If you are not all into Apple, a windows based micro pc or a used pc will get you twice the oomph for less

Much appreciated, currently running an Nvidia Shield as my Plex Server, with Nvidia Shields around the house as our main smart TV devices. While the Shield as Plex Server works perfectly fine, I casually keep an eye out on these deals because why not.
Since only my wife is running Apple, then sticking to the ecosystem doesn't have the same value and not worth the premium. Thanks for the context here!

Major redesign (very rare for Mini) and internals upgrade about to release
If one insists on a Mini for Plex, go preowned
A preowned base M1 Mini can be had for $200-250, for example
