So why is this more expensive than something like thisFarberware enamel stock pot [amazon.com] that looks very similar for almost a third of the price.

Good idea. Unfortunately they weren't even $10 less so not really worth it. One color did have a used "Acceptable" for $81...so that's a little more tempting but I'd probably just do a different brand than get one scratched/dented. Martha Stewart enamel/steel 16qt is only $59.

I understand the point of enameled cast iron, but what's the point of putting enamel over steel? Just for the looks?

There was sale on a bunch of this stuff a few years back, and I snagged this one. I actually love it, and use it regularly.

Strong recommend - $111 for something that still looks brand new 4ish years later is fairly solid.
