Adding into this, this SE version is nothing but a stripped down version of the BD-790i MoDT Platform but with one improvement as well. I got this yesterday in the below Reddit post which you guys can checkout to find out the differences.
https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeServ...therboard/

Main differences are: -

The two M.2 slots are PCIe Gen 4x4, instead of Gen 5 x4
Does not ship with Wi-Fi Antenna
The Processor is Ryzen 9 7940HX instead of Ryzen 9 7945HX. However, the difference is superficial at best. The only difference is that 7945HX has 100 MHz higher Base clock Speed (2.5 GHz) over 7940HX (2.4 GHz). Everything else, like the Cache Size, maximum Boost Clock, TDP, are same.
Now the PCIe 16x Slot is reinforced with Metal Fasteners to support bigger and
heavier cards.
The SSD cooler fan has been removed

But for being $200 cheaper than the standard BD-790i, I think that makes it a superb deal. The main thing you're loosing here is the PCIe Gen 5 SSD support but Gen 4x4 is more than enough for any current needs.
If you are planning to build a itx based system that you plan to keep for a while. Don't get this. No bios updates or guarantee of support from the vendor.

Bundles at microcenter for an Amd based cpu motherboard and 32gb of ram will be 100 dollars more. However with Asus, Msi manufacturers you will get bios updates for a while.

Remember this thing will need a case, power supply, ram, storage and possibly a gpu. At that point you may as well spec out your own itx system. CPU coolers are cheap.
It is standard ITX form factor. The advantage is the cheaper price and ease of installation. This Processor performs like a Desktop Ryzen 9 7900 12C/24T Processor (may be even better at lower power limit) which alone costs more than this MoDT Platform. If you consider the price of the CPU + Decent B650 Motherboard + Cooler, you will go well above 500-540 USD. Here you have the CPU + Motherboard + Cooler (without 120mm Fan) in a single package at $329. It will be easy to install as well.
Also, due to the standard mini-ITX form factor, for the rest of the components, you can simply use standard after market components like PSU, Case etc.

Is this smaller or more performant than just buying an ITX board + CPU + Cooler separately? I'm not sure what's the advantage of soldering the APU onto the board.

How big of an upgrade would this be from a Ryzen 7 3700x? I'm running a mid tower with an rtx 3080. Can anyone recommend a decent ITX case that will fit my video card and a normal sized PSU.

Imho this is a solid deal for a 16core/32t cpu alone. Add in the fact that it also includes the motherboard and a cpu cooler makes this a really good deal.

It apparently has bifurcation on the x16 slot so you could put whatever you wanted in it including a 4x nvme card.

Pretty solid upgrade, especially in single threaded and gaming performance. Multicore performance is anyway, way higher on this due to newer architecture and twice the core count.

why would there necesseariy be no bios updates? because it's a unique board/reliant on miniforum to release updates and they don't historically? EDIT: ah, read a bit more info about minisforum boards/etc and see that is a standrad practice with them (lack of updates, etc)

Not 100% sure it's the same mobo or revision, but 7 out of 7 reviews on German Amazon all claim it's suffering from BIOS battery issues.
It forgets the settings if the power is lost, even if there's a brand new battery installed.
