the 3550 and a 3560 have the smaller 0.47" DMD chip that some people say has a small failure rate so a lot of people have stayed clear from these models

The HT2060 for $730 would be the way to go and is one of, if not the best projector under $1000

and a honorable mention is the TK700 for $800

Good ventilation and cooling can prolong the life of the DMD. Major cause of the failures is due to over heating during operation.

The TK700 has the 0.47" TI DMD too.

Bruh how are you gonna compare a 1080p projector to a 4k one?

Honestly, after personally owning a projector 6+ years ago, It's just not something that looks fantastic, such as a mini-led or LCD panel. I would rather see people buy a 85" for $1000 - $1300 and put it on the wall. Much better picture. A friend of mine bought one of those short throw laser projectors and a very expensive screen for around $3,000 all in, and then he came over to pick me up for lunch a few months ago and saw my 100" TV that cost me $2,200+, installed for free, and he was very upset with his purchase suddenly. Projectors also make noise, even if just slightly. There are too many cons to owning a projector.

I agree with several of these criticisms, and add: 1) they aren't good for rooms with any moderate level of "uncontrolled" (ambient) light, 2) bulb wear leads to dimming picture and semi-expensive replacement (though you have several thousands of hours before that happens), and 3) for us, the worry about "bulb strike" wear makes it so I just don't use it as often as I probably would a regular TV, esp for short viewing sessions.

However, there are situations where a PJ makes more sense than a 85"... e.g., for portability or installation concerns, etc. A 9-pound projector can put up the same (or larger) size/quality picture as a 150+ pound TV, under the right conditions.

Ive been running the same benq 1060 ($800) for over 10 years - have close to 10,000 hours on the original bulb. bulbs are now $100-200. cant compare the experience of an immersive 12 foot screen (144") at all!
during that time i have upgraded my main TV 3 times.... at far greater cost than the projector (even if i had needed to buy a new bulb)
I would say each has their place. Tv's are great for general tv watching (news, reality tv, etc. Projectors are great for immersive experiences (typically movies).
If possible have one of each Big Grin

Wanted to keep but vudu/fandango was limited to SD and roku/firestick was a no go for 4k as well.
