About this product:
  • Designed to clean spaces up to 1,560 sq. ft. in 30 minutes.
  • Combination of a pre-filter, deodorization filter, and True HEPA Filter reduces 99.999% of 0.01-micron particles, including pollen and other allergens; It also reduces 99% of volatile organic compounds and odor.

The difference is that Blueair uses an ionizer you can't disable. While ionizers are no longer producing ozone in quantities worth being aware of, they affect particulates in the air in a way which can lead some people to feeling it in their throats. It irritates only some folks for whatever reason, but most brands allow you to disable it.

I own devices both from companies, including the 400 shown here, both are capable units.

For most people, I would actually recommend multiple air purifiers and always leave them on a set mode - ignore the auto function.

Some worth looking at would be the Winix 5500-2 and the Levoit Vital 200S.

Some other quality options for people who don't need carbon filtration would be the Airfanta 3 Pro and the Clean Air Kits Luggable line. Those are simple, but effective purifiers for particulates. The Airfanta 3 Pro is incredibly effective while the Luggable line is fairly quiet, cheap to power, with inexpensive common filters that perform well.
Coway 400 is a solid well-built and nice looking air purifier but def takes up a fair amount of real estate. I think they have made one that looks like a table or piece of art I believe.

A few objective items to note about the Coway 400:

Coway 400: ~ $300 with Amazon prime 10% pretax as estimated low price I have been able to find
CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate)
285 (Smoke), 358 (Dust), 450 (Pollen)

For a consistently top rated air purifier that regularly hits $180 on sales and price drops the value for form and function and cost is unbeatable for the BlueAir 211i max.
BlueAir 211i max: ~ $180 pre tax at low
Verifier CADR of ~ 410 cfm across the board for smoke, pollen, and dust on their website. I assume since not itemized
(Amazon also shows - Smoke/Pollen/Dust CADR 410 cfm)

The BlueAir 211i max stands out when comparing relative value - form function to price cost. So unless you just like the look of Coway or need it now and are ok with the extra cost for perhaps slight better pollen cfm / CADR then the Coway 400 is a good purchase.
Note that "smart" does not mean wireless app compatible in this case.

I actually disagree, you can do a lot with the wifi unit in terms of integration with home assistant.

Exactly ozone is not good all the time, I call it the turn on and leave room until it's off for a while button on my Coway

A couple months ago Walmart had the white Smart version is 400S for $349 for a month or longer and should come back at that price or less soon, at least on Thanksgiving deals.

I went with the LEVOIT Air Purifier 600s due to lower filtration cost and availability by 3rd parties…it was $229 three months ago on SD.

Thanks for the info! Can you help clarify why you would always leave them on a set mode and ignore the auto function? Thanks!

Any tips on where to get the filters at a discount? I have the 300S, and I can't find the filters for less than about $90. TIA!

Edit: spelling

For those that want similar performance for much less money (although perhaps slightly more unsightly), the AirFanta 3Pro is the best value product on the market right now. The company owner, Adam Wong, is active on X and has posted quite a few test results but you can also check YouTube for others who have confirmed the high performance and low noise. I love my Levoit 600S for the wifi and auto function but the 3Pro can do twice the CADR at half the power.
