At only 182 pieces, shouldn't the current sale price be the normal price? What make this set worth $40?

The boat piece is big. The pieces count can sometimes be inflated with tons of 1x1 bricks for example.

Nothing makes the set worth $40 besides LEGO saying so. In Europe it's only 30 Euro and they have all the taxes included. LEGO just knows that people like the exclusive animals in the set.
