How does this compare to the 2023 tcl qm8? Also $900 at BB
Rtings reviews for each are fairly close. 7.9 for the LG and 8.4 for the QM8. Their tests basically had the QM8 beating out the LG in every category. If you're comfortable with the TCL name it seems to be the objectively better TV per rtings, but the LG by no means measured poorly. Some people may be more comfortable with LG for reliability over TCL so that also counts for something.

The Rtings QNED85 review you mention is for the 2022 Mini-LED version. Rtings has not reviewed this 2024 QNED85T, which IMO, is a step backward (edge-lit w/ local dimming) from the Mini-LED version. This 2024 version is more like the previous generation QNED80.

That's a good catch, and yes, I couldn't agree more that it is a step backwards if it's edge lit. With that information I'd steer firmly away from this one personally. Honestly anything edge lit near $1k should be criminal. It's late and I'm not going to go find it, but I read an article not terribly long ago that basically was a warning that nearly every edge lit TV was destined to fail. Possibly just that they got exceptionally warm? Might have been on rtings actually. If I think about it tomorrow I'll go find it.
