I have one and there are a few caveats in its use.

1. Standard size lawn and leaf bags do not work well with this. The legs are too short to allow the bag to sit underneath without it being all crooked. It's designed for plastic bags but you are a monster if you put organic materials in a plastic bag.

2. The air intake is grossly undersized and quickly gets covered in debris. You have to stop every few minutes and clean the filter.

3. It only has 2 strings that quickly wear out. I use the rino string that is supposed to last longer but you still only get about 10min of use on leaves before needing to stop and swap out the string. It should have 4 strings or at least be able to add something stronger.

4. Measure and precut your strings and have them ready to save time. I usually precut 10 pairs before mulching leaves.

Why not just stick a string trimmer in a trash can full of leaves? Running the leaves over with a lawn mower would also be easier.

I have one and worked well for leaves, grass clipping and small twigs. Nothing thicker. Let the leaves and clippings dry out a few days make it more efficient.

I'm guessing it's like a weed whacker given the trimmer line. Probably good for leaves but not twigs .

I've been wanting something like this for making compost, but I'm wondering if I should hold out for a chipper/shredder type unit. Have you missed not having the chipper aspect on this? Edit: I went ahead and grabbed one. While I'd like a chipper, this is probably better for large amounts of leaves and grass clippings. Now, we'll see if Walmart can manage to find my house, in my residential subdivision, inside the city limits, with numbers painted on two places on the curb. I guess I need a flashing neon sign, as it's always hit or miss with getting my delivery from Walmart.

The main use case for me is the reduction so that I can fit the max amount of leaves in my garbage cans as green waste is an upsetting $15 a load if I have to make a transfer station visit.

Is there a simpler and cheaper non shredding stand? Seems like a good idea to pick up and drop leaves into a bag instead of needing 2 people.

Just something to hold the bag? Google leaf bag holder, there are many options available from simple racks to scoops.

Bingo that's how I do it. I'd rather sharpen old blades or buy new ones rather than use anything else. Just lower your mower to ground level and watch out for rocks or other hard things.

I wonder how accurate the 16:1 reduction is, even if it's 4:1 that would be a decent savings for me. I ran the numbers and I currently spend about $40 every fall between lawn waste bags and stickers. I tend to fill up about 20-25 bags so if I got this I could save about $30 per season, and this thing would pay for itself in 2-3 years.

I have Walmart +, so shipping was free for me. Not sure about others.
