Not sure if you being serious, but the port has nothing to do with toilet paper. Toilet paper is mainly made in the North America region for the US. No one is using expensive shipping space to ship toilet paper by sea. Toilet paper is light, takes up a lot of space, and cheap. Would you ask a moving company to move a stack of toilet paper to your new home if they charge you $100 per case?

You're right but a lot of people don't know that and that's what happens. Costco in Lansing Michigan was out yesterday and Kroger was limiting purchases.

I do inbound logistics for a large grocery company. On Monday my boss sent an email about the impact the port strike will have on paper products... My forecasted movement on tissue skyrocketed... cool.... Tuesday's report.. water and tissue, through the roof... I'm still confused why tissue and not food... must be a covid thing... 🤷 ♂️

It's not because of the strike. It's because people are dumb and listen to other dumb people on social media. 99% of the tp we use in the US is made in the US. And even though we do rely heavily on the importing of Brazilian eucalyptus pulp to make our tp, most of what the manufacturers need they already have. The issue is that retailers typically only have a couple weeks on hand because tp takes space to store, so these stupid panic buys wipe out that supply quickly and then we have to wait till the retailers can re-up.
