I bought the UM690S a year ago directly from MINISFORUM. After waiting a month or more it arrived DOA. Had to send it back on MY dime and wait for THEM to receive it before they would ship a replacement. Another few WEEKS later it arrived and actually worked. So YES that extra $25 from Amazon is 100% worth it!

Not a better deal but they have it on Amazon for $25 more if you want it delivered quicker and have an easier time returning it if you don't like it. Again not a better deal but more of the Amazon tax for more convenience.

Had one. Downgraded to a NUC because the thing was so unstable. Hard freezes at least a few times a day. Forums said to downgrade RAM speed to 4800. That helped a lot, but still hard froze about every other day. You get what you pay for, I'll gladly pay more for anything but Minisforum.

For the deal posted, yes it is a PC. However it does not come with RAM nor any storage so you will have to buy them separately and install them yourself, as well as install an OS (like Windows or Linux)

I was looking to get something like this as a streamer but it turns out that unless there's gaming or running Plex/Kodi or the like.... Roku Ultra, Apple TV or Onn Google TV 4K Pro are a better choice.

If you try it, leave the render scale setting alone. For some reason they cba to fix it on AMD gpus. Anything but 100% and you'll lose fps.

I might fall into the intended use case. Code compilation would use the CPU. Slicing the tool head path for my 3D prints would use the CPU. I don't play any video games.

Im using a mini-pc from Beelink for small tasks such as running local Minecraft servers for the kids, and I attached a dual bay USB HDD dock with a couple of 10TB hard drives for a basic NAS solution, Plex, and my Unifi controller.

So if you're just trying to do something basic, I'd suggest looking at something like this instead. In your particular case you'd prob want the better CPU tho, but posting this for others' benefit. It was important to me that the PC not be overly powerful and power hungry since it stays on 24/7 and is currently connected to the same UPS that my networking equipment is on.

I use them for Batocera machines. Mount them on the back of a TV and I got a dedicated gaming setup that the kids can use with ease.

why are they better choices?

I like having a HTPC... I find it is easier to do things on Windows then Android.
