This sander seems extremely overpriced for what it is. Is it worth it?

Also, who has the time and energy to downvote Milwaukee deal hacks? Every comment in every post has a couple negatives at some point. Maybe they get upvoted as time goes on but it seems like spitting into the wind.

How does the hack work again? Can you buy online? Or it has to be in store and return the battery?

If you get the battery as a separate item on your receipt, you can return it for the amount listed on the receipt and keep just the tool.

Some people separate the battery for pickup instead of delivery or to delivery at another location and never pick it up, hoping for an automatic return.

I once had a store manager insist on trying to complete the pickup order no matter what he had to do, but customer service finally intervened and got me a credit.

It's easier to just return the battery at the store if you are doing a pickup.

Easiest way to do the hack is order both for pickup in store. Select the ideal store for you for the tool. Then select literally any other store for the battery.

After you pick the tool up, cancel the battery via HD app or website. There's a small chance you may have to call the store that the battery was ordered to to cancel (it's happened for 3/10 of my hack orders the past year)

I don't think it's worth it. I've read a number of reviews that say the tool has lackluster performance, weird vacuum attachments, and is not very durable.
The strongest argument I've read in favor of it says that it's good for small, quick tasks. But for $129 bare tool? I'd just get a bargain bin cordless ROS.

FUEL version with better performance and significantly less vibration coming out likely next month. Definite price difference, but maybe worth it depending on your usage.

Had this and a Ryobi and a Rigid for a big drywall project - the Milwaukee is always smooth when operating while the other two rocked and wanted to jump off the material very frequently.

My one complaint is the switching of the dust collection attachments that you mention. It's like they want you to pick either using a vac or using the far inferior onboard dust collector because switching is impossible without breaking a plastic tab that keeps it together.

Otherwise pretty happy, it's not like this is 2x the price of alternatives and if you're already in the team red system it's a moot point IMO and you get in my experience a superior product.

Realized the belt sander has a free tool deal because of this posting, thanks OP. About $180 after the trick

for an occasional weekend warrior, will this be sufficient or is it better to wait for the newer version? I'm considering "the hack" since I have enough batteries and the price looks ok. (Though I've read in some other post that Milwaukee's sanders are among the few of their tools that are not that great - how about this one?) Thanks!

Same here and every time I consider this sander, I always decide getting a corded DeWalt would be better.

I have a corded Bosch that is much smoother. Also I think something broke or wore out in my M18 sander because the disc spins up to some crazy RPMs when it is not touching a work piece. Like I have to be careful if I lift for just a few seconds because it will build up so much spinning momentum that it can gouge when I return to contact with the work piece.

Downvoting is a tool. Time and energy is an $investment$.
When you're too negative, Slickdeals/loyalist/fanboys go on the offensive.
When you're too positive, the deal heads to frontpage, flippers suppress comments/rating to allow time to hoard.
Speak your research/comparative analysis truths, stand corrected when corrected, ignore the noise.

This sander runs on 18V and has the Milwaukee (quality-most-of-the-time) premium, so maybe that. If reviews are positive and can't wait till fuel version comes out, maybe it's a decent HD type price.
