Nice price, but RAM does not seem upgradeable from 4GB. Not sure why Asus would manufacture this e-waste.

If you do purchase this item, you should leave it in Windows S mode for best performance.

soldered makes this e waste.
dont even bother with windows remove it and install linux to make it marginally usable.
but still very very very bad.

if these assholes would just add a 10 dollar slot it would be worth 50%-100% more than now.

Would this load and play Minecraft?

I have a 10 yr old who may love something like this. And it's about the price of the tablet he's using. My local store still has 3 in stock. May just buy one and return if needed— but this would be a YouTube/google/minecraft machine. Is that doable?

Sorry- I'm so technologically brain dead that I have to be that dad who is asking all y'all.

It probably won't run it very well because of the low amount of RAM. I would spend a little more and get something with at least 8GB.

Chromebook with 8gb ram do the trick?

Google search does say that Minecraft will run on a chrome os these days.

I think so. I'm not sure how apps on a Chromebook work and wouldn't be surprised if it was the Android version.

I picked this up this afternoon and it's not too bad. The screen, which is an important aspect of laptops, is okay. The pre-logon image Microsoft displays that has a field of tulips looks great. So do the text and images on the New York Times website. I didn't really do much testing in terms of performance but I had a few Brave browser tabs open and switching between them was quick.

For somebody who has basic browsing needs this is not a bad laptop.

Having said all that I bought this with an older person in mind and I think the lack of a backlight keyboard might be an issue so it's likely I'll return it.

It really sucks how they're soldering the RAM onto all these cheap laptops to make them disposable when the RAM eventually stops working
RAM doesn't "eventually stop working." It's one of the most robust parts of the computer.

You can change the setting in windows. Tell windows to "Do nothing" when you press the power button. Of course, if the laptop is off, this will still turn it on...but if you're online and doing something and press it accidently, it'll "do nothing".

This video will show you how to do this if you don't already know.

Thanks for the tip! I didn't know win11 has that option. I generally use Linux, so I check my distro to see if it has that same option.

No, it's not. The drive and RAM are the most common parts to go bad on a computer.

S mode really is awful, I cannot install my programs, Startisback fixes the awful interface.

Store price is $104.99, $5 cheaper than online. I had a Target Circle Offer to earn $10, and I have bunch of merchant credits that I cannot use online so I used them on this laptop. Yeah I know it's very crappy with 4gb ram, but I like the fact that a 14" comes with a num pad. You don't find num pad in a 14" laptop.
