I've had a similar cheap Arctic King 7 cu ft chest freezer for over 2 years now in my Arizona garage. I have both a temperature sensor in my garage, and a probe into the top of the freezer. The garage regularly hits or exceeds the 110F rating during the summer (and some days stays above 90F even overnight). And with the freezer set to the middle of the control dial for temperature, the freezer happily does its normal cycling between 0F and -12F (sustained average of -6F) all day long during the peak of summer.

Might want to re-read what you quoted..

Yes - a lot of people do have >$1000 in frozen food, and no - that's not crazy.. It's just part of buying pasture-raised full/half/quarter animals (e.g. cow/pig) from local farmers. Also doesn't hurt to have a little extra freezer space if overflow is needed.

Shame these are restricted to walmart members or I'd probably get one - my bottom-drawer freezer doesn't have a ton of space for Costco visits.

I wonder how they hold up in a southwest garage. Seems like a wasteful use of energy in that situation but maybe they've addressed that somehow?

Garage Ready typically means they're good for up to 110 degree indoor environment.

Sorry I didn't phrase very well, I do believe it can keep up just fine, I'm more wondering how much energy it's using to do so? I have to think a freezer in a hot AZ garage uses a lot more energy to keep up than in a more normal summer environment, but then again who knows, maybe the difference is negligible. 🤷

getting a backup for the backup. Consider it a cheap insurance plan for the thousands of dollars of food in the freezer.

I've had one in my garage (Durham, NC) for about 2 months. Working great so far.

Foolish... wasting hundreds of dollars on ANY backup system to protect hundreds of dollars in frozen food is ridiculous...
