Seems like a good deal, is this really like 4 years old tho? Any better options. Just mainly want speed, distance, time, for wahoo sensors. Don't need a real GPS, I know where I am going.

Looks to be dead? Not seeing the price available in any of the other seller options either.

This is a great deal, but I found the interface very limiting... I sold mine after a couple years of struggling with it. I'd spring the extra for the 840 since the touchscreen and software is much more intuitive... But great deal on this model!

I've still got my 530 from 2020, and it's working great with no noticeable battery degradation. However, I'm looking to upgrade to the Edge 540 and hoping to snag a deal on Black Friday. Once I do, I'll sell my old model on eBay, where used ones are going for about $180.

July 2023 there was a deal on the Edge 840 by Bikecloset.com for $300+tax.

Was advertised as open box, probably for legal issues but I believe mine was just gray market. Definately sealed/BNIB.

As such, I cannot upvote this as slick, even tho this is a decent unit.

Super old - 530 came out, then 540, then 830 then 840, then 1030 then 1030 plus, then 1040 then 1040 solar and now the 1050 is the latest model.
This is like 10 generations old!
Doesn't work like that.

The 830 came out same time with the 530, I believe 2019, and the 530 and 830 are variations of the same generation unit: the 830 had a touch-screen (the 530 only had keys, no touch) and bit more memory and thus the 830 could do more with navigation on-board without the help of your phone (very niche, who rides without a phone anymore, and who does ultra-long marathon ala great divide stuff without a pre-planned route?).

Same for the 840/540 pair. Thosae came out mid 2023 I believe, So the 530 is just one generation older than the 540 that is the current model. Even if Garmin won't follow a 4y cycle this time, I don't think they will replace the x40 series just yet.

Yes there is a 1050, that did come out just 2y after the 1040 which came out like 1y before the 840/540, and less than 3y after the 1030, but I don't think the follow a 2y cycle often, if at all with their mid-range models.

The "50" generation just started rolling out, with the 850 and 550 yet to be released. Previous gen was 1040, 840, and 540. And before that, 1030, 830, and 530. So the 530 is two generations old.

Look at the Edge 130 plus, but it is a smaller screen. I would take 530 over 130 plus.

It's a good deal for a Garmin. It's a nice unit. If you want a good basic unit check out the igpsport bsc100 or bsc200. I bought both of these for kids and they've been great.

You can get a wireless computer from Amazon from any number of companies (coospoo, igpsport, CYPLUS, etc) that can do that for like $40. The edge 530 is a good computer despite its age but is probably much more than you need to spend for your wants.
