A few things that helped me decide between the two:
1) The Q Revo comes with a spinning mop, which works well, but the S8 comes with a vibrating mop, which is arguably less effective at mopping.
2) S8 comes with a camera, and if the company wants to record videos and pictures and use em, I would never know, but the Q Revo comes with Lidar instead, which is more than enough for navigating and object avoidance around the house.
3) The Q Revo is a bit cheaper.

Both use LIDAR. It's the tech used for mapping and navigation. The camera is used for obstacle avoidance on the S8. The revo doesn't have a camera but uses other sensors. The obstacle avoidance is thus worst than the S8
Whoever came up with the models and naming strategy at Roborock needs to be fired. You need a PhD just to discern how all the models are different and which one is better than another.

Yeah the Q Revo obstacle avoidance was awful so I went with the Dreame L20 instead.
FYI: This dock auto empties dust bin, and of course charges the vacuum. Their higher tier ones' docks (s7 or s8 maxv ultra for example) will wash and dry mops, refill water, keep dirty water. Those will not be in this price range in general at roborock. They do allow running the vacuum truely unattended several times.
I've seen it implied there's a new gen soon to debut. Like how we first had just the robots then the robots with the mops then robots with docks for dustbin and mop cleaning. Not sure what's next but apparently all companies are gearing up for that next round - like video game console wars.
